But what I took from the interview was Nips stance on not being fukked over by the majors. Nip wants ownership of his projects and ownership of his career.
At this point, I don't think that Nip wants/needs a major
it was not, it didnt chart dont think he even sold 4 digit copies of it
the ticket thing is cool, i like that didnt know that about the release. Complex definately does do that, i follow a group of indie guys from Atlanta called Two-9 they worked hard to get mentioned in their emerging artists section then they gave them a backhanded comment in the article
my only issue with his evaluation of his music is that theres no market set for a $100 album. Dom Kennedy is a peer of his and is still selling on itunes for normal pricing. people pay $5 for gas because they must, if someone is dropping 1k for Balenciaga's or Louboutin's its because they have found a market willing to pay for it. i know he had some success with this limited release but it would never work on a larger scale
Yeah I definitly agree with that but I just wonder if he thought like that when he took his first deal. How much he valued creative control, ownership etc. Plenty of nikkas said the same thing about being independent before he signed his record deal with a major too. I'm just sayin its easy for him now to say how wack the majors are and how stupid nikkas are for signing some of these deals NOW,but as much as he says that nikkas still gotta learn on they own unfortunatley. Same way he didn't listen to independent artist who were saying the same thing before he signed his major deal that didn't work out in his favor.
But its great to see a dude learn from his mistakes, you see so many try to make move after move to get on a major. Even though the first deal they got didn't work out. Nipsey said fuk that and worked out a new blueprint. I credit Tech9's success too for showin a lot of dudes. Too see him on a Forbes list I think will wake a lot of dudes up as well. When you can take a invoice to a label and show how much money you have made on your own holding them over a barrell will be a lot easier for you...like u said I don't think Nipsey wants one,but I don't even think its bad to have one once you can show your value and can call the shots

They be famous, but they don’t own shyt. Once the marketing money wears off and you ain’t getting no check, and your single ain’t being marketed to radio no more? You don’t got nobody who really cares for you, or really loves you, or really connects to what you’re saying. So it’s over. I was on a major label with a lot of these nikkas. I’ve seen nikkas with No. 1 hits come and go. You feel what I’m saying? I’m still here my nikka.
Let’s look at the real mechanisms of gauging an artist’s impact on culture. Because if you’re telling me that all y’all gauging is Soundscan and Billboard, we don’t need y’all. Y’all getting an eviction notice. Complex outta here. We cooled on y’all because everything’s gotta go. Y’all the middleman, fukk y’all. What I’m really offended about is that Complex acted like I don’t remember. They emailed me like, “I’m a big fan, I fukk with y’all, let’s get an interview.”
I thought most of yall trendy n1ggas fukked with Complex?...I see you using most of their talking points in your posts..
Nipsey said the realist shyt back to back to back with not one political answer...
I might spend that $100 on that mixtape...![]()
there was nothing real about this interview. he couldn't handle being criticized and got butt hurt, then turned around and said he wasn't mad when he clearly was.
