Then how did Dre catapult 50 and Em to the top?
How did Game blow?
How did Kendrick blow?

You can't be blackballed and have #1 singles and platinum albums.

And who blackballed them? The East Coast? The same coast that hasn't been able to create more than 1 new full on star in the last 10 years? What are you talking about?
From 97-02 the east coast and south ran shyt and west coast nikkas didn't have a shot to blow. No west coast rapper blew up within those 5 years.

So you're saying we didn't have 1 nikka on the west coast better than Silkk The Shocker. Ok. nikkas like Mr.Serv On was going gold at that time nikka. West Coast acts like Steady Mobbin was moving units on No Limit simply because they had a tank around they neck.

steady mobbin had a popular hit record.

serv-on had a popular album.

that tank was important, yes. but i dont know anybody on no limit that got a plaque that didnt do something of relevance. i dont think the gambino family or lil italy have plaques. correct me if im wrong.

Because they sucked my nikka. Nobody blackballed anybody. Silk The Shocker blew in that period... yall didn't have 1 dude on his level?

i cant rock with the shot at silkk.

but even if you dont mess with silkk, you still gotta respect how he kept jams out that reasonated with every market across the board.

so yea, you have a point. cuz no new rappers came out of the west coast doing that in the past 17 years except for the game.

theres talent out there but it just doesnt reasonate. theyve been an acquired taste ever since death row fell under. thats one case. the other case is dudes staying stuck on the same chit.

And Death Row never signed an East Coast nikka. Slip N Slide never signed an ATL nikka. Cash Money never signed a Texas nikka. The West used to openly mock the east. You ever heard Hit Em Up? Seen the NY NY video? Whats your point? Some of you west coast nikkas are territorial to the point of stupidity. nikkas still bangin over blocks they have no legal ownership of :why: nikkas still bitter over a beef that died damn near 20 years ago :wtf: You still aggy over that East Coast West Coast bullshyt sounding stupid as fukk homie

Big Ed had an album that was #3 on the rap charts and he could walk in any mall in America without people knowing who he was.

As far as I'm concerned Souls of Mischief would've fit on both labels so would Rass Kass.

Ras Kass and Souls of Mischief would definitely not fit on Bad Boy

Ras Kass would've fit on Def Jam, and they tried to sign him in 1994, but he decided to sign with Priority. Dumb decision

Planet of Hip Hop
best post in this thread.

i do think that atlanta is kind of like the only market thats allowed to do the chit that they do.

call it a conspiracy but thats how i always felt.

:salute:

think about it. there was always ignorant rap but there was options different sides in the spotlights.... even in atl you had the outkasts the luda's etc...now aint none of that... the labels would rather perpetuate the black ignorant jewelry/cars/twerking stereotype than anything else...keep artists as one/two hit wonders where they have no contractual power..instead of longterm the business model for labels is a quik lick(pause).......they eat well off nikka and send they ass back to the hood without them or the general pop being any the wiser and have set the game up now to repeat the same thing over and over.when the ignorance of southern music gets played out at some point they will find a new area to pop off...now hiphop is just a business cycle rape that almost looks unending going forward

Noreaga is definitely a East Coast/NY legend.

Just like every region has their legends in rap

He's not a universal one

i'll put it like this:

noreaga isnt any less of a legend than somebody like pimp c.

Kurupt is from Philadelphia

he not a philly dude tho.

he spent his formative years in cali.

Big Ed had an album that was #3 on the rap charts and he could walk in any mall in America without people knowing who he was.

no limit had a formula tho.

all those collaborations on each other's records, and all those soundtracks/compilation albums went a long way.

real spit, im glad you used big ed as an example because he perfectly illustrates my point. big ed was one of my favorite rappers in '98-99 and i had no clue what he looked like. and it didnt even matter. i became a fan just off the way that he took over tracks. AND THAT FLOW/DELIVERY had me anticipating his album the same way i anticipated cannibus & dmx chit.

RIP BIG ED.

exactly.

i always say that the south is one big pawn.

Nah. He ain't move to Cali until 17 though and he signed with Death Row when he was 20. So he only spent 3 years in Cali.

Only thing that makes people associate Kurupt heavy with cali is because he's a Crip. But his rhyme style and everything you can tell is very east coast/philly influenced. He sounds nothing like a typical WC rapper.

So Bad Boy was a gangsta rap label yet no west coast nikkas would've fit?
