But we gotta separate hobbies from employable activities.
We gotta operate from a utilitarian standpoint
MOST people would be benefited by NOT doing aimless studies.
I ain't say it was easy.
Loan accessibility HAS to change though, cause universities ain't just gonna stop asking for that money.

They need to forgive federal loans (at the very least the ones taken since the start of the recession, since the inability to find jobs did send a ton of people back to school) and stop giving them out period unless for graduate school or if the student is going into one of the growing, and higher earning sectors of the economy. Universities won't have any choice but to drastically lower their tuition and fees, which have been steadily rising with federal loans being given out. That would also push students into the STEM fields.

I might think French Literature is boring but I wouldn't say it's "aimless" or "a hobby" and it's certainly an "employable activity" along with most degrees I probably wouldn't take myself or see as silly.

Don't complain when your degree can't land you a job to even touch paying off the principle off your education.
This is why people look at some of you all with these aimless degrees as hopeless.

No. Because the fact is FREE higher education is POSSIBLE. In fact, we should be PAYING people to pursue higher education, it's fukking ridiculous. Some things shouldn't be for profit, healthcare and education. It's not just tuition either, these companies who make these fukking books butt fukk you for 400$ for a new edition and they don't even change shyt. Free, open access to information and education is the future. We have to invest in our citizens, and education is the best investment you can make for your country as a whole. I'd love to go get my Masters in accounting but it's just not worth adding 30k more debt, I'd love to get an astrophysics degree, but no, one degree alone is enough to put you in debt damn near for life. It's absolutely fukking ridiculous and the fact that more people aren't outraged is sad. We will feel the effects of indebting our entire young workforce.Could there possibly be an answer(that you'd accept) in between these two extremes?
