well guess what, if education didn't cost 50 grand we wouldn't need to take out federal loans and we could avoid all this bullshyt.
I don't want higher taxes, I want defense spending to be reduced because its fukking ABSURD. Shift defense spending to education and free public colleges.

No it does not. That's an archaic Cold War type of thinking. Before WW2, our standing army was maybe 100,000 people at the most. We decided to become the world's policemen after WW2 due to Europe constant infighting and the threat of the Soviets. In all honesty, from a global stability perspective you can make an argument(I don't buy it), that it was the right thing to do.
But it's now 2014, Europe is more interlocked than ever and the Soviet Union no longer exists. I think we can drastically reduce our Military spending and still be the most powerful nation on Earth. That money can then be used to invest in our people.
Unfortunately, we can't even have that conversation due to fear mongering power of special interests.

Have you been asleep all of 2014? The Soviet Union is basically back. Its not under the veil of communism at this point, but just Russian influence. All the ex-states are basically waiting for CIA and FSB operations to come to a boil and we get all the juicy secrets of the fukkery taking place at this point.
The last 6 months have shown a need for defense spending more than anything since the fall of the wall.

It means I'm free to learn whatever the Koch boys and folks like them want me to learn in exchange for half a lifetime's worth of debt right? I think I got it.
The Gov't might as well be much more generous with grants to students and schools (with the express designation of cutting tuition, not going to staff raises etc. and in, at the very least, quantity out-putted, not necessarily amount per)...and colleges should be more lenient on payment programs (most of which have a very short time period). Less loans will be needed then and colleges would have an incentive to lower prices because they will have fewer bad accounts receivable.
