you get paid what youre worth...that $2 bump is only going to cause inflation and hurt small businesses. People forget most businesses are small, and those people arent balling.

It had/has to be done. The state of NJ has a minimum wage of 7.25 which is terrible. At least if it goes to 9.00 people can be able to afford to buy stuff and thus leads to more spending and when you buy stuff it leads to the stores being more busy and more jobs will be created.

NO NO NO NO!

Say Hello to Inflation!

Why don't we raise the Minimum Wage to $100 and make everyone rich! :whew:

Sure, Minimum Wage is like saying "I would pay you less, but the law won't allow me" but raising it won't fukking make a difference when everything else is raised accordingly.. Milk will be like $7 a fukking gallon, don't you fukking get it? This will literally do NOTHING!

It's a fukking scam, because your money will be worth less.

I don't know how much that REALLY helps people, but at least Obama and his admin people are noticing or trying, that people just CANT make a decent life for themselves at that level, it's not even close.
Helps by giving them 2 extra dollars per hour which in a 40 hour work week equates to more money per month which helps them keep up with the rising costs of food, gas, etc. Get a clue.

It would be better if he encouraged the states to raise the minimum wage individually.

This could kill people in the country and rural areas. Say good-bye to your business if you can't afford it. SMH

This will lead to more layoffs, more job responsibility, more stress, etc.

As usual with unintended consequences, people are not thinking about it beyond the first two moves. The second and third move will not be good in many areas.

New York is different from North Dakota, if he raises minimum wages then no state can go below the set amount. This means that a small business in Oregon will have to pay employees $9/hr, when the owners probably don't even make as much. Like Kalik said above, the owners will be forced to raise prices, which means that that $9/hr is the same as when the person was making $7.

Why don't politicians think this way? When I heard Peter Schiff argue against minimum wages, I was like wtf, but now I can see why these policies never work. These decisions are better made on a state by state basis and not nationally.

The minimum wage in Oregon right now is 8.95. You think that nickle is going to break a business?

You are right ND is different from NY, but its fukked up that the minimum wage is the same in both states, THE FEDERAL MINIMUM! Nobody can live in NY on the minimum wage. So clearly the federal government has to do something but NY State has no interest in doing the right thing.

Raising it to 9 bucks isnt going to break anyone. It used to give people a fair living wage a long time ago when shyt was still made in the US but now nobody can afford it? Please. The minimum wage should at least keep up with inflation.

businesses arent going to take that hit. They are just going to raise their prices.
People dont understand that you cant tax the rich to make things fair...they just charge you more.
And its not really affecting the rich...its the guy w/ 5 employees thats just barely making ends meet that will feel this.

The owners dont have to raise shyt. A large pizza was 16 dollars from pizza hut when i was a kid, thats when minimum wage was below the 4 buck mark. Now that shyt is 10 dollars for whatever you want and minimum wage is 7.25. WTF? How is that? Its like that for everything. Nothing has increased in price, if anything the price of goods have gone below what they should in relation to inflation.

Those decisions should be left up to the states. The Federal government doesn't have to do anything. The PEOPLE of New York should elect representatives that will get the job done, because if the gov't gets involved it will hurt much more people nationwide. Obviously states like NY and CA should have higher minimum wages, because of the cost of living.

If you live in the middle of nowhere you may not be able to afford to pay the federal minimum wage.

There are towns that see no money. They are far removed from a highway that would bring in money and traffic, there is nothing there. Yet because somebody in Washington decided something would be good they must comply. That's kinda unfair. Which is why many people in the country don't like that kind of interference. You may think you are winning brownie points with the public, but people see through it. They see the harm it could cause them.

The prices for goods depends on supply and demand. Sometimes there is a breakthrough in technology and prices fall, because that technology allows companies to produce an overabundance of items. Sometimes it is because companies have found cheaper materials, labor, etc.

It could be a lot of things, but if you increase labor cost prices will rise and companies may lay people off. Companies will not eat that increase, especially retailers. Manufacturers don't really have to worry since most of them are transitioning overseas anyways. It will affect those who cannot move, gas stations, convenience stores, etc.

So what happens when the state shows it has no interest in raising the minimum wage? What happens when politicians are so dependent on huge money from owners of businesses who have it in their best interest to keep the minimum wage suppressed that nobody ever takes up the cause? Can you give me any reason as to why NY and NJ should pay the federal minimum wage given the cost of living there?

If your business cant afford to keep up with inflation in terms of paying the employees then maybe you should go out of business.

the higher the minimum wage, the higher the unemployment rate...meaning you can forget about getting that second job
