I know what pell grants are. I received them myself. I was asking a source for this:

I asking for statistics and data Bernie used to make this claim. He already admitted to not having any.

Well community colleges are ran by states and in addition to qualifying for pell grants most students who do also qualify for state based aid so i dont think there has ever been a national study done to address his point concretely..but the point remains that with pell grants + state grant programs + low tuition cost = free tuition at community colleges for low income students.

What about lower middle/working class people who can't be eligible for this aid but don't have enough money to cover it on their own? You point seems to conflict with this claim made:

Pell grants already make community college free for the people that need it to be free

Lower middle/working class people can apply for scholarships like any other student if they dont qualify for any type of pell/state grant..and if they doesnt work out they can take out a small amount of loan to cover the low tuition until they can find a scholarship..Plenty of options out there a national program of free tuition with a 2.5 GPA requirement is not needed and fortunately wont see the light of day in any committee in the house or senate

Absolutely, especially the lower working class. They can't apply for the safety net but can't afford it on their own. Debt slavery it is.

This is insane
.

Yup, I feel it's largely lead to a decline in the middle class.

When I was a lad I couldn't get financial aid so I had to take out loans from citibank. :skip:

As an adult on my apartment I pay an exorbitant amount and would like to pay less but can't. I'm not eligible for state or federal housing schemes which have income caps very low(in perspective to the market).

When you get old your social security wont cover/keep up with the cost of inflation, and taxes.

When you get old medicare doesn't cover living in an assisted living facility or home care so you either pay for it yourself (impossible) or you give everything you've worked your whole life for including your home to the state. Say goodbye to passing down the little that you had.

the middle class is in crisis and no one cares, congress, advocates... no one

Fisseha Mekuriaw, Walmart associate since 2009

A year ago, I enrolled in the nearby community college, Georgia Piedmont Technical College, and have been taking prerequisite courses for medical fields. I feel so fortunate to have been chosen as a recipient of Walmart Associate Scholarship since the beginning of last year. I am well on my way to achieving my academic goals and hope that about a year from now, I will graduate with an Associate's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology.

It is not always easy to juggle life and be successful without a little help, and I am truly grateful for the assistance that I am receiving. It has had a great impact on my life and will improve my kids' future.

Thank you again for so generously supporting my endeavor to achieve my goal.

The requirements:
  • What students have to do: Students must attend community college at least half-time, maintain a 2.5 GPA, and make steady progress toward completing their program.
  • What community colleges have to do: Community colleges will be expected to offer programs that are either 1) academic programs that fully transfer credits to local public four-year colleges and universities, or 2) occupational training programs with high graduation rates and lead to in-demand degrees and certificates. Community colleges must also adopt promising and evidence-based institutional reforms to improve student outcomes.
  • What the federal government has to do: Federal funding will cover three-quarters of the average cost of community college. Participating states will be expected to contribute the remaining funds necessary to eliminate the tuition for eligible students.
