Free, huh? Then it will be compulsory, which will ultimately just extend adolescence even more than it already has been. It will also just turn a college degree into a high school degree. Oh, and the banks will get subsidized by the feds to fund it (in some way or another).

Those Scandinavian societies are absolutely falling apart due to their free/subsidized higher education.

I was reading more into this. The State of Tennesee also deserves major props for spearheading an initiative like this years back. They pay the full two years of Community College if certain criteria are met

There are 4 annual requirements a student must complete in order to remain tnAchieves eligible:

1. Enroll in and complete 12 credit hours each semester
2. Maintain a 2.0 GPA
3. Complete and submit 8 hours of community service by December 1 and May 1 each semester
4. Complete the FAFSA each year before Februrary 15

Whether or not you agree with the move is one thing but this is most definitely a political move to get the GOP to be on some "We don't want the less fortunate to get a chance of education and bettering themselves".

The Cynical part of me thinks that Obama will spend the last 2 years of his lame duck Presidency mouthing off and pushing for truly progressive things like this because he knows it will never get anywhere. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the rhetoric like this, but they really squandered 2009-2010 when they held the super majority. and could get real leftist legislation passed. Something like this would have been great in early 2009
