A nothing comparison. It anything Lions and 49ers were better parallel
IE at some point you just run out of bodies. Could we have beaten Washington with a more disciplined offensive game plan? Sure. But the defense was dead and Goff was over compensating because we couldn't stop them at all. Because, again, the defense ran out of NFL-caliber bodies.
That being said I think the last couple weekends have displayed that our depth isn't as good as it could be. Sure, Holmes has done a good job filling holes with vets on cheap contracts. But the downside is that this team lacks young depth. We don't have a young, drafted TE behind LaPorta. We don't have a young, drafted safety behind Kerby/Branch. We had one young, drafted CB on the active roster (Terrion). We had one young, drafted DT active for most of the year (Tyliek...not counting Alim who is on a second contract, and not counting Wingo who was inactive most of the season). And there were no young, drafted DEs behind Hutch. Sure some of this was because guys were hurt (Dan Jackson, Rakestraw, Paschal, Hassanein, etc). But we haven't even drafted a single TE besides LaPorta. We drafted one safety besides Branch/Kerby.
This team needs bodies and it needs DUDES. You watch Seattle's d-line and it's waves of guys. Same with New England. One guy getting hurt doesn't implode the entire system. And when I look at the amount of day 3 picks we've set on fire for questionable trades it's hard not to imagine what this team would look like with 5-6 more young promising players on rookie contracts. Especially at TE, S, CB, and DE.
