I'm Ready to Have that Tough Conversation part 2

I understand why Thibs was let go. As a fan who wears their heart on their sleeve for this team - I want the team I grow with to stay.

Practically, I understand why the Front Office has to compartmentalize emotion at times to improve the team.

They knew who Thibs was when they hired him. They knew certain concrete ways he had.

However, what the FO believed, and, honestly, what I believed is:

  • Looking back, with a 9 point lead and less than 1 minute left in game one, proper clock management should have been communicated to the players on the floor and it's the coach's job to ensure the players know how to handle that.

  • This roster could have beat the Pacers if, from game 1, KAT high/low post plays were featured. Turner from any other big on that Pacers team could not stop KAT posting and driving into the paint.

  • There is a level to this roster that can be unlocked and an offensive minded coach can propel this team.

Hard for me to admit. But, this is my opinion as of now.
To me, the second half of Game 4 was an even bigger coaching mishap than Game 1. You can argue that the Pacers herculean efforts caught you off guard after a tough Celtics series. But to ignore the rotation that won you game 3 just 2 days prior, just to spam that same starting 5 for what felt like the entire 3rd quarter was gross malpractice.

This account has been a consistent inside source guy for the Knicks for a while. It sounds like unlike last time, the FO really wants to see who is out there and they legit gave Thibs a chance to keep his job and he messed up.

I expect this to be a long process. I not fully convinced that coaches, especially those with a certain reputation, are gonna be lining up for the job. We had 7 coaches in the decade preceding Thibs' signing lmao. Knicks just sent the message that reaching the ECF isn't even enough to keep your job.

I was wrong about Thibs being fired so quickly after the season ended, so I might be wrong about this too, but I wouldn't even be surprised if we end up settling for some assistant signing right before training camp as opposed to one these gaudy names being thrown around.

Why, he's a bum. He still hasn't developed his game.

He's improved his 3pt shot but that's about it.

Still can't rebound worth a shyt

Defense is less than mid

Dribbling efficiency worse than OG :pachaha:

He's found a cool little niche for himself on the Pacers good for him but guess what Carlise still got him coming off the bench cause that's what he is. A reserve. Role player. fukk him and his windmills. Rather have Grimes and/or Donte back before him

Do knicks fans really think Jalen Brunson can alter his game? He is a pick and roll iso merchant. Don't see how you can change the offense too much

The front office with this firing is telling you this team should’ve beaten Indiana. That Once you beat Boston there was no excuse for any other Eastern conference team to beat you.

Wrong. What they are telling you is they believe thus run was a fluke and probably had decided to fire thibs before the regular season assuming they would lose to celtics.

They were down double digits in 12 out of 18 playoff games. Down 20 plus to Boston 4 times in that series. Boston blew games 1 and 2.

If they think it’s a fluke then they blow up the entire team and you see a brand new starting lineup.

I think with the right coach, you can pivot his role to a more 2 guard hybrid still playing him at the 1, placing Duece or Wright around him to facilitate the ball more frequently, creating fastbreaks more fluently similar to Donovan's role in Cleveland.

Additionally, I would play Hart as a backup point guard more similar to Smart or Holiday.

To answer your question, he plays iso in spurts and this all lies on the coaching for not checking that and giving your 2, 3, 4 roles specific assignments. They were in disarray and abysmal on offense.

Kat should always be a 4 that can spread the floor. Mitchell Robinson should clog the interior.

Now Mikal or OG can have room with Brunson or Duece or catch plays at the perimeter.

Our most important focus this off season should be trying to get another backup C and try to keep Mitchell Robinson and Duece McBride on our roster.

If we do that and do not trade Kat for Giannis, we'll be ok.
