You are assuming everyone has a damn Android phone now?

It is built into Android phones however it is not built into other phones. There are many people that use GTalk only when signed into gmail on a pc.

This is absurd. You can't even tell if people are online when you view from the "Hangouts" panel rather than the "New Hangout" panel..

Its really not that big a deal. This is googles way of getting everyone to use hangouts. Chances are the people that used Gtalk will use hangouts. I dont see the reason everyone is bytching, the UI is better by far and it has more features. But nikkas on this site love to complain.

If its such a big deal, either email the person or grab the apk for gtalk and stop sounding so hurt

First of all..we all know RBK is a fukkin idiot so idk why youre posting examples of such. I defended it because I like the damn app, the same reason youre attacking that..see how this works? I could make the argument that youre attacking it just to attack it. Again, you see how this works?

Secondly, how is it NOT better than talk when it has more features?

Now maybe some people liked talk better..thats fine, but you can use that fancy search to find people that like it. Everyone i know that i talk to on a regular basis likes it better than talk. I'm not saying it doesnt have its bugs, because it surely does.

Google voice sucked too but it was convenient

i need google to update google voice n google talk or merge both. I need MMS on google voice and a new interface....google voice is like a killer feature that google is ignoring.

I used Gtalk on occassion because people texted me on google+. U know google+ messenger didnt have a desktop client right. So the mobile messenger was pointless. G+messenger was the reason people were complaining about google chat client being annoying. Vic even said it at google I/O. They were not syncing across devices. You keeping repeating this dumb shyt about them wabnting you to use G+. nikka G+ messenger is built into hangouts. G+ is the centerpiece of google. THE CONTACT LIST IS G+ MESSENGER UI. Everything else is Talk UI

google voice features are great. The app itself suck whats so hard to comprehend. The UI is ugly and outdated. Google voice is my main phone number. Google voice features will be ported over to Hnagouts idiot. Being able to block numbers, spam control, no disturb, forward messages to multiple devices, amke free calls are features i cant live without. They will be ported over to hangouts.

gtalk was great for someone like me who hates and dont use facebook, gtalk is a great way to keep in touch and talk to people and ONLY people you actually want to talk to without putting your life out on the net. i understand they want to push G+ but theres a certain appeal to gtalk that made it unique for a lot of people

Hangouts, phone calls and Google Voice

Thanks for all of your feedback on last week's Hangouts launch. I wanted to quickly talk about 1) making/receiving phone calls in Gmail, and 2) Google Voice support more generally.

1) Today's version of Hangouts doesn't yet support outbound calls on the web and in the Chrome extension, but we do support inbound calls to your Google Voice number. We're working hard on supporting both, and outbound/inbound calls will soon be available. In the meantime, you can continue using Google Talk in Gmail.

2) Hangouts is designed to be the future of Google Voice, and making/receiving phone calls is just the beginning. Future versions of Hangouts will integrate Google Voice more seamlessly.

and you still can do the same with hangouts. They merge g+ messenger with gtalk now its an issue smh. The same things you could do on Gtalk you can do on here. This is version 1.0. Google said how many times that the app is not done yet

OK, so short summary:

1. There is no way to sort contacts nor to remove contacts from Hangout (Google writes: "contact list will shift over time to reflect those who you contact most frequently, and also as you accumulate a "conversation list" above your "contact list." Right now, the only way to manually change the contact list to remove someone would be to block them")

I do have now 10 "unknown" on my contact list. No idea what this is who that is and why that is this way:

2. Invisible is no more possible (Google: "You can't go invisible currently)

3. Hangouts are no more using the open XMPP protocol (Exclusive: Inside Hangouts, Google's big fix for its messaging mess | The Verge) that way third party services cannot connect to Google Talk/Hangout anymore. Also people are not able to contact other XMPP networks from Hangout.



If I were a Google manager, I would fire each every person from the Google Plus and Google Talk team and sue everyone.

"A reason to use Google+".. or an even better reason not to use Google+. This is more bullying from Google into pushing people down certain roads. What is so wrong with choice? I used gtalk, but not Google+. Now they expect me to use Google+ even to leave a comment and rating on Google Play! I've lost my Gtalk contact list too since updating to hangouts on my Android phone. I had a specific Gtalk friends list who were not part of my Gmail contacts. That list has vanished without warning since updating, and instead all my Gmail contacts appear - who I don't normally chat with. Google really is clumsy and unpredictable. I need a service I can rely on and that gives me options to use the service how I like. Bring on the new stuff, but just give me choice about using it, and don't alter my contact list preferences. My contact list is mine, it belongs to me, not Google. So I've cancelled my Google+ account which I didn't use anyway, and have uninstalled hangouts. Will look for a different chat service for my phone.
