If I was you, I'd really just root your motorola (that part ain't that hard), and call it a day:
Before I hit you with links on doing that, get back @ me with the following:

Settings>About Phone> System Version

You don't need to worry about boot loaders, recoveries, or anything else, if you are gonna stay with the same ROM.

Galaxy Nexus was good for the first year...rooting helped give it some longevity.....but honestly majority of phones are trash status long before you have the opportunity to trade it in

Our problem is that we're on rapist ass Verizon my next phone I'm gonna try and switch to T-Mobile so I can eat off the god phones when I want

Yeah. I did. I sure as hell wasn't doing that EDGE program

Did you sign a contract as well? I think this phone can last me 2 years. the only issue I had with the Nexus was the horrible battery life. It made my phone useless.
