they went down 3-0..

Partly due to poor coaching

Sonics ended up taking two and iirc one or two of the losses were close

That was a very good sonics team. To take two off the goat squad says something. I wasnt surprised at the time but i was also actively rooting for the sonics

If MJ was able to do him up in later games, was MJ past his prime? Just give The Glove his credit..
As I said , Jordan adjusted to Payton's defense. As you can see, in later matchups after the 96 Finals, Jordan cooked him.

The 1989 version of Jordan would have obliterated Gary Payton without much effort.
