I been on a straight 2pac binge for the last few days for whatever reason. Listening to Makaveli makes it extremely clear how much Pac was a fan and respected Nas. nikka flipped Nas concepts on that shyt. Also that's the album to show people who act like Pac wasn't lyrical. nikka was doing extended metaphors n all kinda shyt.

It's unlikely but I hope Premo has saved some beats over the years specifically for top tier rappers (Nas, Jay, etc), like Ghost did for SC2. Just stashing a few things away that rappers weren't buying or couldn't afford. He's dropped a couple albums of unreleased beats so we know he has a vault. I get that there will be new beats on there, I just hope some were saved just in case he got the Nas or Jay call. Well he got the Nas call...

And he knows exactly what they sound best over. Jay sounds best over horns, for instance. And Nas sounds best over hard ass drums.

Yep, some of his unreleased instrumental beats ended up being records with artists

I've said this before but for me it's always:

Nas
Pac

And then everybody else.

Between like 97 and 2005/6 it was really close for me, but Nas took it at some point. It's always been those two though, clearly - with 4 others battling it out for 3/4/5 (Cube & Prodigy for 3/4, Gza and Ghost for 5) and then it gets trickier beyond that.

I love that they clearly fukked with each other's music like that and agree you can hear the impact they had on each other. You can also hear some Wu in Pac (and Pac in Wu, especially somebody like Ghost).

2pacalypse, I understood your style.

The Gotti’s are personal friends of Jay. Irv even admitted that trying to sign Nas to Murda Inc severely hurt his friendship with Jay so he’d been trying to mend it ever since. Chris is just keeping up with the Joneses (ironically)

Everybody and their mama knows Nas won that battle. No amount of juelzong will rewrite that history.

So let me get this straight. Ether was a direct response to Takeover, and most people thought Nas won. Jay then dropped an immediate response, Supa Ugly, that was so bad people didn't even demand Nas respond to it. And 20+ years later because of one radio show segment, Hovengers have pretended like Ether beating Supa Ugly in a battle wasn't fair because Takeover was the comparison point. Nah fellas......people already took Ether over Takeover, to the point Jay had to respond with another track. That's the entire fukking point.

nikka was even wrong about Nas not having other joints. Not only was Nas jabbing that nikka all thru Stillmatic. Nas had shyt like You Wanna Be Me and Last Real nikka Alive as well. He also dropped the Stillmatic Freestyle before Takeover even dropped as a full song. Chris Gotti is factually incorrect wit this shyt. Dope shyt is the audience ain't buying it. They calling it out in the comments.

People so invested in Jay being the greatest genius that ever lived that they cannot just admit he fukked up. If Supa Ugly was just a freestyle, like the Stillmatic Freestyle...why did they confidently take that shyt to radio instead of dropping it on a mixtape? They thought they matched Ether's chaotic energy and almost certainly thought they'd win the radio battle. Only when shyt went left did the narratives and excuses come out lol.

And then when he had a chance to do a "proper" album response he came with Austin Powers impressions and whining about how charitable he is.
