That's what I was thinking as I took a closer look at that list. It's actually a toss up between TWBB and NCFOM over what 07 movie was my favorite (*sips on milkshake*). It changes all the time. I also don't think whoever made that list took into consideration what movies did win BP that year. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest beat JAWS, Annie Hall beat Star Wars, Reds beat Raiders, and Silence of the Lambs beat BATB. But I'm not going to act like the Academy hasn't fukked up from time to time.

How Green Was My Valley over Citizen Kane? :comeon:
Dances With Wolves over Goodfellas? :dahell:
Forrest Gump over Pulp Fiction and Shawshank? :birdman:(But to be fair all three of those movies were worthy)
Crash over any other of the BP nominees the year it won (falling down stairs cures racism, brehs)?
The Kings Speech over Toy Story and The Social Network? :rudy:

I actually think Dances With Wolves is a pretty great film

How was Avatar even nominated? shyt was more of a tech showcase than a great movie. Like someone else said, it wasn't nothing but Pocahontas in space.
A few years ago, the Oscars changed the format so that 10 pictures could get nominated instead of 5....it was basically done with the sole purpose of allowing movies like Inception/Avatar to be given noms as to appease the viewer at home that only really fukk with "popcorn flicks".

Social Network got robbed that year. I have no clue why King's Speech won. Well I have a clue but its a sucky ass reason. Social Network is a film about a generation, Kings Speech is about.........

Plus to be fair, it is the highest grossing flick of all time, it was going to get nominated on the strength of that alone. since they opened it up to 10 slots I'd love for a good summer blockbuster to win one of these days

Honestly, for as much flack as the Oscars get for being "pretentious", they do award high budget/popular films quite often.

It really just depends on what you consider to be a blockbuster or not. The Return of the King was a clear example in 2003. But you could make the case for movies like Argo, The Departed, Gladiator etc.I mean, these aren't superhero flicks, but they were popular and I wouldn't call them necessarily overtly cerebral.

It's just that, every now and again, they fukk around and award movies like The Artist or The Kings Speech, that leaves the general audience like....:aicmon:

Oh yeah I know they do. I always point out that Star Wars, Jaws and Raiders were all nominated for best picture. The last flick that was a huge hit with audiences and critics to win was The Departed in 06. But since they're opening it up now it would be nice to see something like Inception or Inglorious Basterds get the win and not just be in there to say "See, we DO like movies that make money" because the academy has seemingly become that

Gravity has a big shot this year, and that was a full blown blockbuster.

I would have been okay with Inglorious Basterds, Inception though....:usure: I don't really think that was worthy.

I agree but just something in that vein. Don't just nominate them as lip service, make me believe they got a shot. Gravity does have a shot but to be real, I wasn't a huge fan of it. Like I can admire all of the technical aspects including the direction and Sandra's acting but the film overall, mostly the dialogue and script, just kept kicking me in the balls

I was actually thinking about why it could win best picture, it is a good movie first of all, way better than American Hustle, second them Hollywood old cacs love movies like this. The racist ones love them slave movies, and if they give it the Oscar this time, they don't have to give any movie with predominantly black cast an Oscar for at least 25 years. Also, Brad Pitt is involved, and he I am sure he is putting in the work behind the scenes to get this movie up there. If it wins best picture, he gets credit too, because he is executive producer. Don't get it twisted, them Oscars is political.

Nicely done. Now you can claim racism whether 12 Years wins or not.

Not that surprised that Fruitvale and The Butler got shut out. Can't be having TOO MANY good black films in one year, huh Academy? :patrice:

The Butler is not a good movie.

Fruitvale was just too small. The best part of the film was Jordan's performance, and in a year where Redford and Hanks were both on the outside looking in he didn't really have a chance.

Might as well complain that Short Term 12 didn't get a nod. It's a much better film than Fruitvale Station too, imo. I was holding out hope that it would get a nod for best song

:comeon::comeon::wtf: I aint claiming shyt. Hollywood and the Oscars are political. It aint just lets give the award to the best person/best movie etc. There is a whole lot of wheeling and dealing behind the scenes.
