There’s certain stitches on a sewing machine that can mimic serger stitches. (I have a serger though)Machine came in today. Nice little piece of equipment. Been practicing on a few random pieces of fabrics around the house. Still not quite comfortable enough with it to attempt a pants hem yet. Thinking about copping a side cutter foot to give a nicer finish to the edges without actually getting a serger.
edit: Just said fukk it and tried a hem on some work pants. It turned out great![]()

Yea, I'm probably going to buy some modern patterns that I like, but for the most part I stalk etsy and ebay when I can for vintage patterns and clothes. So I've become quite bored with sewing, sewing machines in particular. I've decided to implement more hand sewing and vintage sewing techniques in my projects to get rid of my boredom. I also have tons of vintage sewing patterns from the 50's and 70's so I'm going to start making clothes using those instead of modern patterns.

I actually follow her shop. I'm thinking of ordering her physical patterns, but how hard is the "drafting" part? I think that'll be the hardest thing for me in terms of the pattern. I really wanna try her girdle pattern since I can't really find one for my size.Have you bought from Mrs. Depew on etsy? I love her, I prefer physical patterns as opposed to downloadable ones but she has really cute patterns Mrs. Depew Vintage by Mrsdepew

I'm not sure, I've only bought her electronic patterns that were drafted to scale, I actually didn't know she sold patterns that need to be drafted lol. I want to try her girdle pattern as well. I know she has a website where she gives detailed instructions on her patterns so maybe check that out, or pm her on etsy, she was really nice when I had to pm her because the one of the patterns I bought wouldn't download.
Here's some examples:
Vintage Sewing Pattern 1940s French Bra in Any Bust Size- PLUS Size Included- Depew 352 -INSTANT DOWNLOAD-
Vintage Sewing Pattern 1950's Bikini and Skirt in Any Size - PLUS Size Included - Depew 5573 -INSTANT DOWNLOAD-
I might have to pm her about that. I do like that she includes a booklet on how to grade because her girdle pattern is too big for me.
That's true, but I feel like I need to work on grading anyways, the last time I had to do it, it went relatively well. I haven't seen those, probably because I've been too focused on her individual patterns. I think my only gripe with a lot of these patterns that are like this is that the smallest sizes always stop at a waist size of 25/26. I'd like them to be as close to my own measurements as possible so that the only adjustments I would have to make are removing excess ease and shortening pattern pieces.I have the second pattern in my favorites, I guess I never looked to see it needs to be graded lol. I don't think it would be super hard to grade her patterns, when I was on her blog she said that if you are intermediate at sewing then you shouldn't have any issues with it. If all else fails, you could always pay someone on fiver to do it lol.
I really want to buy one of her pattern ebooks because they come with like 30 patterns for only $10. You have to buy the base pattern first though and then adapt it to fit each pattern and I'm not sure how difficult that would be so I'm hesitant.
