Old heads, was '98 DMX as big as '05 Jeezy, '15 Future, or '03 50 Cent?

You're better off replacing future witheither chief keef in 2012, nelly in 2000 or drake 2008/09 since we're comparing debuts. Future was already a few years deep in the game by 2015 lol.

I was only gonna

I was only gonna say exactly this
shyt was different back then. If you wanted to be the man in high school, just pop in the new DJ Clue tape, and you were “lit” cause nobody else had it. It was just different. You had to be there to understand. Not dissing the new generation at all. It was just different. We would dream of the perfect tape with all the tracks you wanted in it. Now it’s just a playlist on your phone. Hahah

X is my goat and imo has the #1 rookie album and #1 overall hiphop album ever but 50 was another level . Too many things came together, getting shot, beef with ja, mixtape scene. You couldn't buy that type of buzz these days.

DMX had a good 4-5 year run all his albums are arguably classics till 2003 Grand champ. All 4 albums are solid

Folks in this thread are really like X had 2 multi platinum #1 albums in a year...like last year wasn't the third time Future did this...in year 12 of his mainstream career. The disrespect these dudes in this topic putting on Pluto's name for these dudes that had like a 4 year runs:wow:
X did it against much tougher competition.

I am too old to comment on what was happening in 05 or 15

:flabbynsick:

My impression was that 03 50 was a bigger star than 98 DMX.

It's kind of crazy that 50 ended becoming so big because he had some mixtape/online buzz in 99-00 and then disappeared ... I thought he was just another okay rapper who came an went without ever having a real career. I was surprised when suddenly he had reemerged as a huge star.

98 DMX was a real authentic phenomenon closest is 50 but he had a hell of a rollout and red carpet treatment due to the Interscope thing.

That's not knocking his early mixtape work and tracks but he was heavily sorted after. He likes to pretend only Em/Interscope were putting big money up :russ:

50 sold a mill out The gate…

Everyone and their mama went and brought GRODT including the haters.

X dropped 2 albums in one year And became the first since Pac was dead and they didn’t count it.
