Old heads, was '98 DMX as big as '05 Jeezy, '15 Future, or '03 50 Cent?

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Nope. If You're Reading This was not doing what DS2, 56 Nights or Monster was doing. Drake had to kiss the ring that year :camby:
nikka Drake had IYRTITL and then he ended up in his beef with Meek which propelled him to a Mega Star. Future was dropping better shyt that year for sure tho. But Drake was number 1 that year. On Billboard as well and broke streaming records that year as well. Drake was the top selling rapper of 2015. If we doing the numbers game.

And here’s the problem with that: I don’t remember which songs was on which tape then.
All of Future’s chit is interchangeable and forgettable.

So yeah, he had a run but that don’t mean it was (as some have said) a quality run more than him flooding the market.

Future isn’t in this conversation. DMX was doing Woodstock my boi.
I agree with you. Future had a dope as run, it just wasn't at or near the level of 50 or Snoop or X.

In real time on :hamster:, heads were trying to downplay tf out of Jeezy like he didn't have that summer in a complete chokehold.

Dog i went to see them on tour twice in 2005. All 3 was there. It was called the Ga Power Tour. Wayne , Tip, Jeezy. The first show i went to was in Savannah Wayne went FIRST. Then jeezy then tip. Jeezy shut that bytch down so hard that him and TI was going back and forth on the next show to help Tip save face. That show was in Atlanta. I fukk with all 3, but facts are facts.
I ain't even see the post you quoted but I was in and out of Atlanta at that exact time and Jeezy was by far the hottest in the streets until shawty lo

Numbers ain’t numbers. U can’t compare streaming to sales. If that was the case u would think Drake is as big as MJ. Or even Kendrick cause of his Halftime show. And it’s NOT EVEN CLOSE. MJ was so much more famous than them nikkas it’s not even worth discussing. We ain’t gonna speak on album sales in the streaming era vs nikkas who was really getting it. Compare them streaming nikkas to eachother. Not to the ones who came before them. It’s not even fair.
:stopitslime:Which Kendrick or Drake album sold 120 million records? Nobody thinks they're as big as Mj.

Flesh on my flesh was ringing through my city, every breh was bumping it

Fact. The true sign of how poppin you are is when nikkas riding around playing the album cuts and not just the singles

There are just certain things you experienced in real time or you didn't. And you can't google your way through it. You had to have been there.
co-sign. This is why '05 Jeezy resonated with me. nikkas was bumping the entire album & reciting lyrics to the album cuts word-for-word. Not counting "Soul Survivor", I'd say the album cuts on TM101 got bumped more than the official singles.

Anyways, wouldn't you say in the streaming era it's now easier to keep track which albums are resonating due to the album cuts?

Only one close is 50. The rest didn't land like x did. They had big years but they didn't stop everything and get all the attention. X was a wrench thrown during the shiny suit transition. He was an anomaly. He stood alone like 50

That wasn’t in 03 when that line was spit. It was 04. On Young Bucks album. TI found his mainstream success with Urban Legend. Which dropped later that year. I’m not saying TI wasn’t huge. I’m saying Jeezy’s debut was more like a bomb. TI became bigger than Jeezy short thereafter but Jeezy was ATLEAST just as big as TI during his debut.
Exactly. It's why Jay attached himself to Jeezy when he was scorching hot on the streets
