Yes, the level of competition was lower and anyone who tells me otherwise is delusional. But you're right, its not a fair argument and I hate having the "would so-and-so have a better career in this-or-that era" argument myself...just let em stand alone in their time. Although, I do think Oscar would beast in today's league too, but realistically probably not to the same degree.

And yeah, sports media and basketball itself wasn't such a force in pop culture as it is today, so people weren't checkin in on Oscar Robertson all the time or seeing him on TV (like anyone wanna see some grainy footage from the 60's anyway :scusthov:). I mean, the fukkin NBA FINALS were on tape delay until, like 1982? Not sure.

:ehh: fair point

To the level of competition stuff, wasn't there considerably less teams in the league. So teams weren't as watered down as they are now, just saying.

He had nice stats but when I watch those old tapes I'm not too impressed.
It's one of those things about 60s-70s shyt. Look at Bob Cousy... Players were clearly inferior skill-wise back then (not to mention athleticism) :manny:
Seriously. I've watched just about every Big O highlight video and he did the same in and out dribble EVERY time he went to the basket. While I was watching them I realized that these guys weren't even using crossovers back then.

Actually watched footage of Oscar, shyt is laughable. Most old footage of NBA Greats from the 60s-70s even some 80s is laughable

In the 60s and 70s the pace of the game was WAY faster than it is today. The style of play inflated everyone's stats to the point where you had some of the most ridiculous numbers in league history put up during this era. So while the triple double stuff is amazing, you have to put it in its proper historical context.

to juxtapose that, there were actual big men in Oscar's NBA. And it was a more physical league.

anyway @dantheman9758 to son people with video again

an older person could debate this for us, but seeing that im only 20 i dont think i have the authority to even try to compare him to the GOAT's

people in here talking about the lack of moves and how **instert current player** would've beasted, need to put things into context.

if you put LeBron in the '60s, you'd have to strip him of most of his moves, simply because they hadn't been invented yet.

its like when bill Russell said that he never saw a blocked shot until he blocked one. people need to think about these things before they look down on older entities for not being as advanced. in reality, the Oscars, russells, wilts, etc were THEE advanced chit back then. once you acquire an understanding of this, then go back and watch the footage or more than likely - the highlights, you'll understand the amazement.

so yea, I was never shocked whenever I heard an oldhead say that Oscar was a better guard than Jordan, or if they leave Jordan out of their goat list.

i'll say this tho. the only gripe I have is that the game was still type-segregated back then. should've been a lot more niccas in the league than there were.

The N.O
so we just gone smooth walk past the extra p in triple huh?

was the big o that good he puts extra letters in words? in that case he is the goat

he was 6'5 220 jordan 6'6 216 lebron 6'8 250-260

if you look at it the best players in eras are getting bigger so does that mean 7 footers are going to dominate in the near future

As other's have said he is in that convo. As far why you don't hear more about him

1. He played before 1980
2. He only won 1 ring
3. He is not glib and doesn't go along with media narratives. In every interview I have ever seen he has and aura of giving no fukks about him and he regularly shyts all over media-driven sentiments ie MJ being undisputed GOAT.
