Nas is my GOAT but the reality is he doesent have the number of gigantic hits that the 3 guys he's often in competion with for GOAT. ( Jay, BIG and Pac) Nas would get washed in a vs with Jay z. Not cause he couldnt play better songs but Jay simply has more huge iconic songs from a mainstream perspective. Alot of the ones Nas had are not looked back on fondly. (You Owe me, Ochie Wally) I dont think Nas is over looked but I do think thats why alot of folks may have him in 4th place behind those guys. And BTW theres no shame in being behind those names.

No he wouldn't, Nas has a more versatile/the most subtle wide range of fans low key, and has the timeless music advantage, it would all get highlighted in a verzuz.

Some of the arguments in this thread are just weird and disingenuous.

Nas has records that can be played in parties and clubs. I know because I've heard them played in parties and clubs. He doesn't have much past his 6th album (8 if you count The Firm and QB's finest), partly because of the direction he took his music, but mostly because he naturally had less reach in that department as he got older. But he was still selling a good number of albums because enough people wanted to hear what he had to say. Not sure how that's actually being used against him.

With that said, he has a bunch of shyt on his LATEST ALBUM that you can vibe out to. So this whole angle is just dumb.

Edit: Meant to post this in the Jermaine Dupri thread, but its the same people in both threads so :yeshrug:

This is stupid. How many rappers that debuted in 94 have the binder test like Nas? shyt Biggie only has 2 fukkin albums and one of em dropped right when he died. How doesn’t a nikka who got like 7 or 8 multiplat albums. And like 3 gold ones yet maintain his lyrics not considered? This is goofy shyt. Name one rapper other than Jay Z who debuted in 94 and still sell records in 2021? Still getting grammy nods in 2021?. nikkas is clowns on this site ain’t shyt force fed being that the nikka gets shytted on in the media more than anything else. If anything if we being 100 only rappers who deserve the nod at this point is Pac and Jay. Am I right? Because u talk force fed. U don’t have no muthafukkin problem with someone putting Rakim or Kane in a top 5 meanwhile them 2 nikkas ain’t drop nothing noteworthy in damn near 30 years. Explain that.

Doesn't Biggie have three albums?

Even with that said it still doesn’t compete if we using that as a barometer. And while I already think Pac is the GOAT it would make his case even more.

I don't think Pac is the goat but I thought we always counted his posthumous albums.

Anytime I ever tried to do that nikkas would dub that. But with Pac you don’t need to being that the nikka got enough albums in his life span and 3 classics back to back. But if we counting Posthumous we get straight to R U Still Down, 2Pacs Greatest Hits, Still I Rise, Until The End Of Time, Better Dayz etc.

HARD TRUTHS.

hes pushed as this undisputed top 5 rapper but if you anonymously look at his portfolio, he could easily be mistaken for a top 20 rap artist instead.

not a popular opinion on here. this is Nas country. i get it. but thats real talk.

he isn't pushed; he's universally accepted as that no matter how much these new cats, talking try to downplay it/rewrite history

Nas is revered by greats from the past, his era and even the new school gen, that we consider great currently as we speak

...I can go on and on

Pac, jayz and Biggie at some point all bowed down to Nas; and it's on record:usure:

nikkas crazy and even bullshytting and lying in the process to discredit him. Yet in the same breath saying that nikkas with like 2 plat albums or 2 albums period deserve to be over him. Lol

Im trying to understand how that argument even makes sense in terms of downplaying his greatness as a rapper.

This.

What I find funny is that with all this downplaying, its like Nas is being penalized for having longevity. By longevity, I don't mean just simply being around. I'm talking someone who still makes an impact. MC's aren't supposed to survive a diss record like "Takeover". Nas did it with relative ease and returned one of the greatest diss records ever while putting out a quality album. His biggest hits came at his 6th album. The point at which most rappers are burnt out.

nas only really has that one undisputed classic - and it didnt sell well in real-time.
everything after illmatic has been hit-or-miss, depending on who you ask.

as for the max b thing, did max say something about this, or are you referring to the "im biggie, jigga & pac" thing??

Illmatic is one of the most bootlegged album's of all time. It went street platinum if you want to go there. Same thing happened with I AM, Nas rep was so certified and increased by then (originated by the Illmatic legend :sas2:) he was able to survive that shyt and still sell records.

shyt I Am got bootlegged crazy and turned around and still sold 2.5 Mil. Then the nikka turned around and dropped an album that SAME year and went 1.5 mil.
