@ISO brought up a very uncomfortable truth...Once God’s Son cycle was over Nas didn’t have one single song that lived in clubs/parties

Prior to 03 for all his lyrical prowess and talent he stayed with some shyt for the clubs

Oochie Wally
Owe Me
Hate Me Now
Phone Tap
If I Ruled The World
Got Yourself A Gun

Nas always had at least one song from an album ringing off in the club. His best chance post 03 was with “Virgo” but for some reason they never pushed for it as a single

Bridging The Gap?
Just A Moment?
Hero???
etc

It just got worse & worse. It was almost as if he wasn’t trying to compete

For me to buy that argument, Nas can't be the only GOAT level rapper with great rapping ability who gets dismissed like that. If people were downplaying Jay similarly I'd say ok you have a point, but that doesn't happen. For some reason Nas gets dismissed and criticized in ways few others do. And I think it's because he hasn't had a hit in decades. Because of that, a lot (not most) people view him closer to Big/Pac in the GOAT discussion in terms of being "the past," ie stagnant. Verses more active GOAT candidates who have hit songs and albums over the last few years like Jay or Wayne.

I'm in my early 30s. The "Mount Rushmore" of rap for me, and many Coli people, is Nas/Pac/Jay/Biggie. But the Mount Rushmore of rap for the generation after us differs drastically. Wayne is there for sure. Jay is there for sure. Kanye is probably there. And then it kinda depends on what you like or where you're from. Gucci, Drake, Kendrick, Cole, Future, etc. Basically we're watching Biggie and Pac move into the past - not forgotten, but no longer prioritized. It's a conversation/situation LL Cool J/Rakim/BDK/KRS fans went through in the mid 90s, when they saw the new generation completely move on from their heroes. Unfortunately I think a lot of people view Nas in that "past" category, and it's why some people don't even count him. They don't wanna hear it.

Since 2002 so not counting God’s Son.

SD was a double album but cool. Everything since has been Gold or below.

SD sales didn’t count twice. A double album has to clock in at least 100 minutes to be counted twice. SD clocks in at just under 88 minutes. So SD was a “pure” platinum selling album.

No one can say anything about Nas' pen game or songwriting, so they have to resort to things like him not having hits (even though his prime years were full of memorable songs) and his production being bad (which is something that gets repeated by people who don't even listen to his music past 2002).

There was a time where I might have thought that his discography fell off at some point, but it didn't. That period of his career (Street's Disciple to Untitled) that gets written off for some reason had some of his best work, but it will never get the respect it deserves because it wasn't full of chart-topping hits. What should matter is if he can still make music at a high level. Is he aging well as an artist? King's Disease is proof that he is.

The anti-Nas points being brought up in here are f'n awful, like yall sound like you're not even really trying. "He don't be chartin like that. He don't sell platinum like that". How don't you see how weak this shyt looks? Lol.

I'm a stan and I could argue why he isn't a G.O.A.T. better than yall, lol...I aint delusional tho, or a hater.
