Good idea but doesnt "fix* superteams. Bron would have joined the Heat regardless and wouldnt have had to take a paycut in theory.

Terrible idea

If okc's best player is russell Westbrook, and my teams best player is Eric bledsoe, i NEED these guys salaries to count against the cap

If russ cost 30 mil and bledsoe costs 20 mil, that gives me an extra 10 mil for better teammates to balance things out

This franchise tag doesnt solve anything, it just stops players from being able to leave

His comments are still largely pro team. What would be more beneficial to the player is either no max or no cap. Teams already rarely lose their best players to FA because they can pay a few mil more. Over the last few years the only guys I can recall leaving in FA that were legit stars at the time of their FA (not like over the hill Wade right now) were Bron, Bosh, Aldridge, Horford and Durant. Only Bron and Durant are franchise changers. Of course the flip side is why couldn't a guy just leave and be the new team's franchise player? I guess the point is that you couldn't have 3 guys there so you'd have 2 guys making the 'max' and a 3rd possibly getting 10 mil more or something.

All this because KD left after being with the same franchise for 9 years?
article tried to frame it as though Riley was anti-super teams. I listened to the press conference live, he's pro choice for FA and spoke glowlingly about KD's decision to go to GS, all he did was answer a question that was asked

franchise tags in sports are bad ideas based on the archaic idea of limiting player choice in where they wish to ply their trade

you want your organization to become better...DRAFT better, SCOUT better, COACH better, TRADE better...

every team in the nba has had chances to improve......

All this because KD left after being with the same franchise for 9 years?

Teams already have a player under control for pretty much the first 8-9 years of their career. If after all that time you can't convince them to stay, just take your L and move the fukk on. Just because you draft a star does not mean you're entitled to have him play there his entire career. Players already don't get to pick their squad upon entering the league, and yet when they finally do have the chance to choose their own destiny, people still want to restrict that right

Speaking generally though, not necessarily aimed at Riley
