:scust:

She doesn’t even sing, to begin with. She just yells lyrics.

Also that Jay-Z song is god awful and so is this garbage with Fivio or Five Alive or whatever his name is.

It’s bad enough to hear it from passing cars. I’ll see an Instagram post of Central Park and that bytch ass song is playing with it.

:unimpressed:
Yes to yelling lyrics and not singing. Her voice is annoying

Nah. That song was a fukkin smash. When you're singing about one city and it gets crazy play in other cities (especially in hip hop) you know you got something hot. Kinda agree with you on the yelling thing tho :manny:

I just watched the City of Gods video. I’ll give it credit for being nicely put together. The visuals are dope. I feel like I’ve heard the concept/sample from Jim Jones or Fab. And they just left the original girl singing on it so idk why they didn’t do the same instead of having Alicia on this version. She wasn’t needed.

I will never ever get the appeal of Alicia Keys.

To her credit she is a very talented musician and songwriter and I think her talent is genuine. Girl clearly loves the craft of soul music and can go from a hood chick laying down some bluesy hard times anthems to this wholesome adult contemporary radio station crooner. All in one recording session. You sure can't compare her to say the John Legends of the world who only writes boring inoffensive radio shyt and "cacbait" soul music for pop charts and Grammy awards. Her music can get there when she feels like going there.

Surprise people hate Empire State of Mind, to me its up there with Frank Sinatra's "New York New York". I honestly think as the time goes on ESOM will be as iconic as "New York New York", if its not already. Whenever I'm in midtown I hear tourists playing ESOM.

Slightly off topic but I also never understood the hate for "Forever Young" (the Jay Z version) Dope feel good song :wow:

Love the original too :wow:

Nah. Of all the countless "I'm from NY" songs this Jay Z shyt was the corniest nonsense to get propped up by top 40 stations. I couldn't take it every weekend every night at every midtown bar. A bunch of college cacs from Wisconsin throwing up their hands tryna be down for a city they would never even travel outside of exactly where they sitting. Every time I hear the song now it reminds me of college bars and try-hard tourists. :russ:

Be real if you was that kid from out of town and you had to blast some shyt to rep your city you running Jay/Keys or you running Ja Rule "I'm from NY," Dip Set "welcome to nyc", Nas "NY state of mind", Puffy's verse from the welcome to Atlanta remix? Hell I ain't from BK and I'd easily call Jay's "Brooklyns Finest" a greater city anthem at least for Brooklyn cats.

If that song emerges a decade from now on some Sinatra status ima just have to be that miserable dude that resents it for being popular.
