I dunno what happened to her creative direction or process but she went from making interesting, good music to just being trash. Her and John Legend had very similar situations where both switched their entire styles up after having smash hit ballads. Instantly becoming corny, chasing white listeners and contemporary black audiences lol.
That's what happened to the process based on what you said.
Not saying I think this about Alicia or John, but when an artist gets a big hit, and then they get another one that sounds similar, they start realizing the formula and milk it for what it's worth. As long as it's successful, they're going to keep using the formula. They only stop using it when it starts hurting their sales, or they flop beyond compare.
Eminem went through it. Maroon 5 is apparently going through it. Ed Sheeran is going through it. Some people believe the Jonas Brothers are going through it. At some point, it's not about making the best work from an artistic standpoint. You're chasing hits for the money and the recognition, so why mess with that?
