Timberlake is in “my name is Bob and I work at my job” mode during the laughably overblown “Holy Grail

This the SAME way I feel about that shytty ass song, I think I hate that Holy Grail song so much I'd rather listen to Ghetto techno.

Holy Grail is one of the WOAT Jay Z songs ever, IDK, I think it was Timberlake randomly copping pleas after the first verse, shyt was :what: :dahell:

Wherever nikkas need to be told on
I don't like critic reviews either, just pointing out how a lot of people on here contradict themselves when it comes to their fav rapper getting shytted on, the Nas grammy situation is another example. Had MCHG got an 8.0 or something, these same stans wouldn't be in here all :damn: :beli: as for the yeezus album a 0 is too high it deserves a -10

Nas got a 8.3 for LIG and BNM from Pitchfork. And who cares? Answer: everyone to some extent. It's the reason we keep posting critics' reviews and ratings of albums even though we say we don't care. It's the reason we come into the Booth even though it's flooded with stans. nikkas like to debate and discuss this rap shyt. We all listen to the music for different reasons. And we all have different criteria for evaluating the quality of music. But no matter what nikkas say, they want to debate, they want you to like what they like, they want you to hear what they hear.

Now fans of LIG heard the album, liked it, and read about the critical acclaim and felt validated, even vindicated by all that. They felt confident that Nas still has it after 20 years in the game. Fans of MCHG heard the album, liked it, read about the mixed reviews that are pouring in and feel conflicted about it, even imprisoned by it. They are questioning whether Jay has it.

Edit: But when Needle Drop gave LIG a 4 Nas fans almost lost their shyt. :ohlawd: :pachaha: Point is music is subjective. Take reviews with a grain of salt. They may make some valid points here and there but your ears like what they like and you shouldn't be heavily influenced either way but what others say.

The rating was harsh (especially when compared to Yeezus) but the review was spot on...

Him an Beyonce been together for 10 years and he still treats her as nothing more than a status symbol in his music...She's no different than a Hublot or Basquiat to him on his albums...I'm not saying he doesn't love her and they don't have a great complex relationship but he does a poor job expressing that in his music..

Artists like Kanye, Common, Nas, DMX, Pac, Ghost and Eminem are able to do a much better job at this...They paint pictures of love, hate, passion, jealousy and desire...

It's almost like he views his wife the same way us fans do.. Just a piece of hot azz talented arm candy...

I often disagreed with your posts on here but this is SPOT ON and an exact sentiment I have expressed to others in my criticism of this album

The things surrounding jay are not living breathing people or influential art that has an effect on him, sources of inspiration or whatever, they're purely status related and don't delve past the surface with him, and that is a mark of POOR WRITING

I really don't know why I even bothered reading this review. Probably because I wanted to prove to myself that most music critics are in fact, fukkin' oblivious.

"“Heaven” is the most thought-provoking spiritual meditation he’s written"

Seriously? He's a fukkin' rapper, not Buddha.

fukk Pitchfork, they gave Yeezus a 9.5, Mac Miller's album Watchin' Movie's a 7, and Magna Carta a 5.8?

Glad this reinforced my preconceived notions that Pitchfork is a joke that loves flexing their elitist bullshyt.

I like the album, don't get me wrong ... but a lot of the record consists of this lol.

Good review. This album was incredibly disappointing. Probably my least favorite Jay-Z album, in all honesty. Out of context modern art references aren't a sign of maturity.

I'm probably one of the few Coli folks that likes Pitchfork, but this is stupid. They've always had the same guy review EVERYTHING involving Jay-Z and he trashes EVERYTHING he does. And beyond that, their rap knowledge is very weak. They only seem to appreciate ignorant SOUTHERN gangster music, and anything Kanye does.

Solange Knowles had some GREAT tweets about this at the beginning of the year. Here's all of them bunched into one paragraph:
Some of these music blogs could actually benefit from hiring people who REALLY understand the culture of R&B to write about R&B. Some of these music blogs could actually benefit from hiring people who REALLY understand the culture of hip hop to write about hip hop. Like you really should know about deep Brandy album cuts before you are giving a “grade” or a “score” to any R&B artist. And ivy league credentials don’t give you any insight on “grading” a rappers body of work…when you’ve had no access to the REAL culture. There are SO many gifted writers who truly understand. Who didn’t get hip to R&B & Hip-Hop via the crossover artist of their childhood. Just hire them please ,so you can stop insulting peeps knowledge. So you can stop acting like it just popped off last year for R&B. Like it just got interesting and experimental. So you can stop praising every rapper who raps over a trap beat, but can’t form literate sentences & then you market it as some hip shyt. And that wasn’t a rant. It was an observation and a request.

So how do you know if someone has a sufficient appreciation and understanding of the culture and music? :patrice:
