Real talk my 12 year old looks like he may have college potential in FB and basketball and I'm thinking about keeping him completely out of football. I just want him to go to school for free and I'd rather him get a ride to a D2 school for basketball than a major conference school in FB at this point

The NFL is the highest rated TV show in every market every Sunday for 6 months every year. The NFLPA is run by chumps. I already said if they ever decided to strike the NFL would buckle 10 seconds into it.

The most dangerous sport not having guaranteed contracts is absurd.

This isn't true at all. The players are not financially stable enough to outlast billionaires in a strike. Sure OBJ, Big Ben, and Richard Sherman could last but those guys in the middle and bottom of rosters? Hell no. Not enough guaranteed money for them to survive a strike.

Two words. TV Deal.

You think the NFL is going to lose that ad revenue? They're a billion dollar business for a reason.

It's easiest to make it to the NFL, so players are more expendable. With basketball now being a global sport, it will be much harder to make it to the NBA which was already extremely difficult, see Hoop Dreams. They atleast have options outside the US.

Baseball is damn near impossible to make it in. Most 1st rounders don't even have successful careers in the majors.

I'm not sure if I buy that. The specialty players in football are only rivaled by Olympic sprinters and the lineman bench in the 500/600 lbs.

American kids cant compete though. Is the only option pretty much sending your mid overseas to some bording school soccer academy? Maybe because I only went to black schools but high school soccer is not competitive at all. Its usually 1-2 really good teams and everyone else sucks because most players are playing just to have something to do in their off season.

Yeah, the apparatus (outside of college) isn't in place. All it needs is investment. I think in a generation the USA can be competitive. But the money has to be spent from the top down and the NCAA don't wanna let go of that shyt.

Look at how dominant the womens soccer team is in the USA. It because the sport was marketed to them and the money was spent to develop the game for girls and not boys. The USNWT has talent in the pipeline that will keep them in the world cup mix for the next 15 years.

I feel like the NFL, NBA, & MLB would try to lowkey sabatoge that. Because they would be competing with Soccer for same talent pool.

Not going to change unless they go on strike. After your first contract you should be looking outside of the NFL to make money. For some people this is their only way out. The league doesn't have to pay taxes because it is setup similar to a charity if I remember correctly. I think the NBA will catch them eventually because it is a more global game. NFL plays less games then any other sport so that's that the thing that is crazy about how much money they generate.

im sure its written in the contracts they have to pay regardless and im sure they have insurance in that case, the nflpa is so weak because the majority of players buckle. They need to do what the nhl did years ago, basically they got their joseph in egypt on told the players that in a few years there will more likely be a strike to start saving your money, thus players were able to last the year and get what they wnted.

The nfl at the moment like another person mentioned is top heavy, the middle and bottom wouldnt survive they'd be getting those eddy curry 40% type loans

I legit see no benefit in being a football player honestly. If my kid is atheltic and short they would be better suited for soccer anyways imo.

My girls little brother plays d1 ball and isnt NBA caliber but dude can legit go overseas and make a decent living Football if you dont go pro you pretty much are regulated to being a coach or something if you still want to be involved with the sport.

Yep Khalid El-Amin said he made 30 mill in his career playing overseas.

Exactly folks dont understand the total situation. The players contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on. So the contracts aren't guaranteed plus teams can sue players for the signing bonus if they retire or dont perform well (remember the raiders tried to sue Russell for his signing bonus saying he wasn't committed to playing QB).

It is also a league where everyone is replaceable except the white star QB.

Overall the fans don't care about any of the players except the few star QBs.

The NFL/football also isn't a highly skilled sport and many of the folks outside a few QBs are replaceable (also because of the recent rule changes).

So players have very little leeway as say people in the NBA and MLB.

Last the players striked before in the 80s and the league used scab players and the ratings barely took a hit. Fans almost don't care how bad the NFL is or how trash the players are because football and the NFL is ingrained to american society (for example teams like the browns constantly sell out and get some of the best ratings in cleveland) Folks gonna watch no matter what. Either to watch their team, look at fantasy scores/points or gamble on the games or qtrs or stats.

One more thing the owners are just as bad with their money as the players. The difference is the owners have an unlimmited stream of funds injected into their pockets unlike the players.

The owners can lockout the players and still be paid billions for multiple years from licensing, indorsements and tv contracts.

They have some of the most bullet proof contracts in all of sports and america (when it comes to corporate america dealings with the NFL).

Not to mention the owners (especially the NFL) make up group of one of the most (if not most difficult) leagues to be apart of and are connected to old money and politicians that run all the way to the white house (and have for many decades).

That is why noooooo one fukks with the NFL.
