They can't, that's why it won't happen except in some b*stardized fashion. Playstation division is 25% of the company. Playstation supports the company, that's why can't be dumping money like Microsoft is. That is why Sony is trying to leverage their IPs to the movie and television side. Unbeknownst to most people it appears, especially on the heels of the chasing AAA games, Sony is going to try to sell us the same game over and over this generation as AAA. Third party single player games. They will be good at the very least with a few possibly be great/stellar. With the exception of Gran Turismo as a racer of course. I'm looking at all of my PS4 games from them and what do I think I won't get on the PS5. Driveclub sequel? Nope, Wipeout sequel? Nope. Killzone sequel? Nope. Maybe a Bloodborne remake by Bluepoint but my point is, they've become risk averse. That's why the money hatting of games like Deathloop and FF16 makes sense because it is cheaper than developing something themselves.

We sit here and yes, it seems odd to say this as Sony, between the two companies, have as of now, a dominant mind share but it is precarious in nature. I'll be one of the last people to get Gamepass. I do prefer physical games. That said, I recognize that A: It is inevitable that consoles get to this point of streaming and B: I'm already in the minority when it comes to this kind of game consumption looking at existing game purchases around the world. Most are digital and most will not have a problem with a gamepass model because most people don't care about ownership nowadays. They aren't married to the idea of physical anything. Most people stream music in their cars, they don't use cds anymore. Most people watch Netflix or other services. Blu-Rays don't sell crazy anymore. Why would gaming be different?

So, to the original point. I agree with your post wholeheartedly with two points to add.

Point #1 It's not like Microsoft is doing anything special, that's why I keep saying that this is a battle of attrition now. Bleed all competitors dry. Phil got the fabled warchest open.

Point #2: They will get home on most of those games that are striving to be AAA. I've been watching the ascent of all of these teams and the likes of people that they are bringing onboard. A lot of this points to the open flowing of money for talented people but Microsoft is getting them and investing in the studios.

Microsoft is doing this across the board.

The battle is basically money now, the games are the focus but in many ways, they are the proxy to something greater. Phil has convinced Satya that the future of Microsoft runs through Xbox and until that changes, you will see things like the high dollar spending on developers and subsequent building up of the developers. Games now take time to get to fruition but when I see how game companies lauded for a technology like Ninja Theory is for motion capture use this for their games before Microsoft money came.

Brehs, they got people buying shyt from IKEA and Amazon in this video and recording shyt in conference rooms. :mjlol:This was 2015 on some high school video recording shyt.

Varying levels of this is happening in every site. I have no idea how long money goes for trillion dollar companies but obviously, it goes a very long way. They ain't bullshytting.

Not sure Sony can afford that scope.of a program, but it would be dope. I would be tempted to buy a PS5 to play the exclusives I skipped last gen and this one. I could beat them all in a few months, and keep the system or sell it if nothing else interests me. :ehh:

Only you old head Sony stans even say stuff like this.

Most people just want to play games. They ain’t thinking about what system a game is on or it’s budget, or it’s sales or any of that nonsense.

Never heard anyone utter the word “AAA exclusive” in real life.

Y’all need to step into 2021 and just have fun with gaming.
I’ve been having fun with gaming.
I’m just not interested in renting games that been out forever and crossing my fingers for an actual new game worth playing to pop up on the queue from time to time.

Would prefer they don’t as you are not going to pump a shyt load of money into AAA games and tell me they are going straight on Sony equivalent of game pass. If this mode of service is adopted by all platforms it will affect the developments of high quality games. I don’t believe game studios would be making as much from something like game pass. It is not sustainable for long term profits but could be wrong...will wait for a Microsoft fanboy to tell me otherwise.

Think it will be a 1 year after release game comes to Sony pass or whatever. Plus maybe legacy stuff and an expansion of PS Now.

On the other hand, this is Jaffe, he might be talking bullshyt. He hasn't worked at Sony for 15 years now.

EXACTLY right.

These AAA costs money and years to develop. You also have to pay 3rd parties to have their shyt on there. GP is losing money for them as well. Cats forgot they tried to slide in a price increase on Live Gold on the low not too long ago :francis:

Using GP for older shyt and indies while making cats buy the DLC if they choose is smart. But right now they are clearly subsidizing GP with gold subs. That can't and won't last. Upping the price is gonna scare cats off.

PlayStation revenue was over double their competition last year. And their brand is strong worldwide. They don't "have" to do anything right now.

of course they are...they realize where MS is going and what it can mean to them...for a company that’s supposedly not in trouble they sure as hell are doing a lot of scrambling...no way that MLB shyt didn’t fukking sting
Sony playing like it’s 1990. The delusional internet fanboys can only carry a company so far

Even the way you frame this is disingenuous cause you have a thing for collecting boxes.

You know what games are coming to Gamepass and there’s no contract or anything you can drop in and out when you want to.

No one is just sitting on Gamepass “crossing their fingers” that’s nonsense:comeon:

All this emphasis on rental services is a bandaid for the lack of brand new AAA releases.

So having access to a plethora of classic games while we wait for more triple AAA titles to be released is a “band-aid?” :russ:
We we know you Sony stans are miserable with Microsoft’s success. It’s gonna be okay. I promise we’ll reserve a nice spot in the gaming museum for the discarded Sony systems.. :russ:

Microsoft has the superior technology, and the best value for gamers. Since I’ve been rocking with MS since the OG Xbox, I have access to literally every game I’ve purchased online for the past 10 years, in addition to all the free piff. Those without money can get an Xbox Series S with a multitude of free games for a fraction of the cost. The game pass is clearly the best thing to happen in gaming.

Having access to games that I would probably never purchase if I didn't have them to load up and play while waiting on new games isn't a bad thing. Just like most new music I listen to on spotify.

Everyone is waiting on games right now, being able to play from a huge selection of games including day and date new ones and enhanced older ones.... I just down see the downside as a consumer. The service would have to be like 29-39 bucks before I i'd even actually start to think about "is it worth it" for a on going subscription.

Throughout this thread nobody is mentioning the cloud and how far advance it is compared to PS. I don’t see how Sony could compete.
For the best experience they work with microsoft ironically enough. Which I think they already do... but how much more to they want to lay out to the competition? That's the real question.
