The bolded is a fact and is actually wholly unnecessary. Also, extremely damaging to black psyche if we really entertained such a thing.

As for the second bolded, can not emphasize that enough. I would go as far as to say anyone with opportunity and access should get themselves away from perpetually disadvantaged people and solidify the more educated and productive black enclaves. My theory being if you have enough idiots around, you collectively bring down the productivity of a people. Bring enough like minded, productive, and ingenious people to one area and what can you have?

As long as there are olive branches to those who grew up in poor circumstances, there is always a way to uplift ones self with other's help. By now I think we see what happens when a few well-meaning people stay behind in shytty places trying to make a difference. It either works on a very micro level, or not at all, or ends with well-meaning people being victimized. This is also one of the reasons for reparations of sorts as me "staying in my community" does nothing if I can't bring some serious investment, and no, beauty salons and chicken joints don't create wealth. I mention that last example because my neighborhood cycles through those two things regularly and in my 35 years on this earth, as far as I know, the neighborhood has ALWAYS been shyt.

I agree that it’s a cultural thing. Our community glamorizes everything that no community should if they want their community to be successful. Obviously a paradigm shift is needed, but I don’t think that there will ever be one. If a person tries to elevate himself, they look at that as selling out. I’m 43 years old. It’s been that way since I was a little girl. I would love to say that it won’t be that way in another 43 years but it seems to be getting worse in our community. It would be great if reading and literacy, along with education, pride, and dignity, was at the forefront of our aspirations as a community. Alas, it’s all about superficial shyt and being looked at as a “gangster”.
ETA: I take that back. I actually wasn’t like that when I was younger. You had music that was positive, and the black community really sought to be successful and continue to climb upward. We had pride in ourselves. The start of it came when rap music became popular. Yeah, I said it!

You shouldn’t be glamorizing certain lifestyles past a certain age.

Our community is in the Dark Ages. Only way out is to push the underbelly back into the underbelly and to get away from ignorance.
