AKP is trash, makes sense a lot of people would cast their lot with those against them and hope for the best

No it doesn't make sense. People criticise Erdogan for authoritarianism yet were cheering on a military dictatorship.

Whether we on the outside like their policies or not, AKP won a majority and have a mandate to govern the country. You wouldn't "cast your lot" with those that want to subvert the people's political rights in the US, Brazil etc and you shouldn't in Turkey.

Why was Davutoglu chased out by Erdogan? And doesnt the AKP share the same ideology with the Muslim Brotherhood which believes in political islam? And doesnt that mean they are at odd with Saudi Arabia although they are together in Syria?

Davutoglu wasn't feeling changing the constitution to presidential system snd he and Erdogan were at each other's throats.

The AKP and Muslim Britherhood do share some of the same ideologies but they believe in using democracy and the current systems. They're not out to change things to a theocracy.

And Turkey has had to rely on energy imports from the Gulf (Saudi and UAE) so their support for Muslim a Brotherhood has been muted since 2013.

Assad must go was policy since 2011 and it got remixed with CIA arming rebels in Turkey and Jordan.

Turkey's Syria Policy has sucked and that's clear.

President Erdoğan: Uprising was treason
Turkish’s elected president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has just spoken on live TV in Turkey (earlier, he delivered remarks via the highly unorthodox format of a FaceTime broadcast on a mobile phone shown to a CNN Turkey TV camera).

Erdoğan said the uprising was an act of “treason” and that those responsible will pay a “heavy price”, according to Reuters.

The president also said the prime minister has given orders to “eradicate” those who are shooting from the air.

He further said the uprising was carried out by a “minority” within the military who can’t stomach unity of the country. Erdoğan said some in military have been taking orders from cleric Fethullah Gulen and that the attempted coup shows the Gulen structure is an armed terrorist organization. Gulen has denied involvement.

According to Reuters’ translation, the president said he would not hand Turkey over to occupiers and said the cabinet is functioning in Ankara. Erdoğan further said he will stay “with my people”.

I agree

I'm not saying those people made a good choice, I'm saying it makes sense for people to make quick unattached decisions on the Internet

Every day I fear more for a return to a military takeover in Brasilia so as much as I don't like erdogan, and admire Kemal to a degree, I could see this wasn't a good thing

Erdogan saying he wants to "clean up" army. If I were him, I would wait until the situation was completely resolved before making a statement like that. It might tempt some commanders who had been sitting on the fence to jump in with the remaining coup plotters.

I doubt anyone outside of turkey will know what is going on for atleast a few days. Endogan comes out to say everything is under control from the airport in Istanbul. Yeah sounds like it's really under control

The amount of people coming out internationally to condemn the plotters so quickly isn't going to help them tho.
