All I'm saying is all you people who advocated for a military crackdown on people's democratic voice I never EVER want to hear you bring up Chinese democracy and Tiananmen Square.
That high rate of turmoil isn’t exactly an accident. In fact, one of the reasons behind the string of coups has to do with something baked into the Turkish system of government. As TIME explained after one of those coups, the nation’s constitution leaves the military with the authority to “step in” when needed; military leaders are not beholden to political leaders.

According to the constitution, the military has the right to step in to take over if the president is deemed unfit or not adhering to the constitution. Constitutions are supposed to be an guide for running a country that isn't influenced by the shifting winds of any political climate at any particular time. Particularly in this case, the popularity of islam and Erdogan's catering to it should have no bearing that the constitution is still being followed. Also its not like Erdogan has complete mandate based on the last election. It was nearly split 50/50 and he won barely. Also its not like the military has no argument that Erdogan is slowly becoming more dictatorial. Based on this information, they had a pretty good argument for staging the coup and its legally backed by their constiution. No it doesn't make sense. People criticise Erdogan for authoritarianism yet were cheering on a military dictatorship.
Whether we on the outside like their policies or not, AKP won a majority and have a mandate to govern the country. You wouldn't "cast your lot" with those that want to subvert the people's political rights in the US, Brazil etc and you shouldn't in Turkey.

Wait what? I was following South Sudan pretty closely but haven't been the last 4-5 months. They had a civil war that erupted in December 2013, but signed a peace agreement late last year with the rebel leader returning as VP. Has the situation devolved again?![]()

Well that ended quickly.
Erdogan gonna be feeling himself after this, gonna go full-blown Adolf Erdogan now.
