The only old heads you can compare Lupe to are Common, Jay, Nas, & Twista cuz those are the main legends his styles are akin to
Not really, can compare him to anyone.

Maybe back when Lupe was making street/hustler music but his mainstream career post-2006?Not really, can compare him to anyone.
Maybe back when Lupe was making street/hustler music but his mainstream career post-2006?
It's like comparing Q-Tip to Jadakiss
Lupe has so many styles and ways he rhymes in his careerI'm not sure, firstly I don't think you are limited to compare artists like for like, secondly how would you describe Lupe's style?
Lupe has so many styles and ways he rhymes in his career
Hustler/gangsta rap (reminiscent of old Jay)
Then a nerd kid from the hood with giant robots and shyt (which he pulled off)
Concious MC/storyteller
With a wide variety of flows and production type
With P you know what you're going to get and he doesn't change for nobody. I'm not saying that's a bad thing but people who strictly fukks with MOBB street/ignorant type raps aren't trying to hear all the styles Lupe takes on.
It's just a matter of preference at that point.
I disagree but that's a respectable analysisLupe does seem to experiment with more flows, and probably more subjects too.
I kind of see Lupe as an MC who wants to be known as a lyricist, so in that regard could compare him Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, Melle Mel, K-Rino and others and I feel he falls short to those MC's and many more.
Even on an MC level taking out the music, I don't think he's fukking with Kane, or KRS as a full package.
I'm not too knowledgeable about nerd rap so I won't comment on that. Hustelr shyt I don't feel Lupe really excelled there. My personal favourite style he does is a political/conscious/intelligent style and I feel that can be compared to many, even Tragedy as Intelligent Hoodlum. Storytelling could be compared to a Biggie or Slick Rick and I feel he would fall short there too.
I think Mobb does appeal to the demographic you said but also just street dudes in general or been through some shyt or in beef, there quality fell, but Infamous was exceptional work, on all levels.

I disagree but that's a respectable analysis
Tho hustler rap was surprisingly one of Lupe's strong areas
He stopped because of the negativity
coli nikkaz love garbage thoDon't know shyt about Lupe and never listened to any of his albums. But can he really be THAT BAD where we're comparing him to a nikka asas Prodigy?

What was happening in the Chi most definitelyCool man, all good, like you said I imagine some of it is preference based. When you say negativity how do you mean? Media backlash or what was happening socially in his city etc?

thoWhat was happening in the Chi most definitely
When he got on the mainstream platform he said that he had to put on a positive face because he knew he was going to become a role model for all the lil nikkas
So even tho I fukked with his gangsta shyt I have a huge respect for the dude for bringing in the positivity and rocked with him ever since
Lasers is stilltho
