Are you completely ignoring where I said the account is lost? The account is what's the primary factor here, not the Xbox.
If you lose your account for w/e reason, it doesn't matter if you have an SSD or USB device with games on there, it will not just play without needing to be logged in on a different console to your original account.

You can't just lend out your SSD with games on it and have a random person play it.
If the SSD is from your home console you don’t need to log in to play games from it.

I don’t know how else to say that to you :manny:

The angle isn't dumb, I've almost lost my account when I got my phone stolen out of the country. I've seen reports of people being unsuccessful in recovering their account. Also this idea of "hundreds of discs" being a pain in the ass to haul around is just as silly, everyone isn't walking around with shelf size amount of game cases/discs. I've only moved all my physical games maybe twice in the past 20 years.

51efY5EQfUL.jpg

All my games have been inside the same binder I've had for games since the early 2000s. It would be like saying it's dumb to have a console in the first place because it's better to keep up with just one online streaming account rather than to have a physical console box as if people are moving around with their console everyday.
If you can keep up with a binder full of discs, you can write your password down somewhere and keep it.

They even have password apps and other products that will store and preserve your passwords for you.

There’s no way you can argue to me, it’s easier to keep up with physical media than it is to keep up with one damn password :stopitslime:

When something is delisted, people use that as an opportunity to raise the price. That doesn't mean it's hard to come by. In fact retro games as a whole are easier than ever to buy.
It’s supply and demand when something is discontinued it’s supply instantly goes down and it’s demand goes up.

Games that get really expensive are that way cause you can’t just walk into a random gamestop and find them, The few people that have those games set the price.

Was talking about this is probably the last console that will even have a disc drive.

Dreamcast, saturn, xbox, and PSX are becoming ever difficult to find working.

The longer we go, the more difficult it will be.

Like if you own a collection of 8 track tapes, hardware is difficult to come by.

And that’s an open source thing anyone can make.

As sony and microsoft stop manufacturing these things, you won’t be able to find working hardware.

The argument against digital is some dystopian future where sony/microsoft decide to dial into your console and delete your games.

Both of those hypotheticals would be far in the future.

In the case of physical games it is inevitable they will die.

With digital games they can be backed up indefinitely.

Vinyl still has a market and anyone can make records and record players.

It’s the most “physical” of all physical media. You are litteraly listening to the physical grooves on a piece of playstic.

Game disks need proprietary software and hardware to produce and to play back. They are closer to digital media than yall are willing to admit.

You need sony and microsoft to play nice for your library to stay valid as well.

As for collectors, as we move into the digital world, i’m sure there will be some type of digital display products so people like you can still scratch that itch.
My personal argument against digital is the "loss" of "value" in the monetary sense, along with the "loss" of nostalgia that is unique to picking up an original complete copy of Metal Gear Solid.

1. yes. The SSD on both is plug n play.
2. Yes, that’s how people were selling copies of PT. Problem is you can only have one drive formatted that way, so you would not be able to make multiple copies and sell them.
Breh....you have to log on though. Either I'm misunderstanding you or you are misunderstanding the process.
I think I have a pretty firm understanding on what you can and can't do with digital games because in my house, we have 3 PS5 consoles and I share my entire digital library among 2 of the consoles. The third console, I always have to buy a separate copy because you can only set one console to be your home console. I have never heard of, or see no possible way how you can set an actual SSD to be your "home console" how your describing it. I have never heard anyone make the claims you're making.

Not to completely derail the conversation but I think it's important to point out that this right here is an absolutely terrible habit that people at large have and it's the primary reason people's accounts everywhere are so easily compromised.
More specifically to the point, it's an incredibly common issue for gamers to have been gaming for 20+ years and signed up for a service under an old email that they completely forgot the info for and find themselves completely locked out.
Just do a quick google search on people pissed off at EA because they signed up years ago on accounts they no longer have access to and therefore they can no longer play any EA games. It's not a super unique situation like you might think. Now that's not going to be fixed by physical games, but I'm talking about the premise that keeping up with passwords is supposedly easier than keeping up with a physical disc.

I get it.

But like i said the “nostalgia” issue can be solved digitally.

And i think digital games offer some unique value to make up for the resale value you lose.

The SSDs in the xbox/ps5 are just off the shelf SSDs.

The one that is in your console does not need you to log in. If you put that into another console. That console is now your home console and you don’t need to log in to play it.

the problem with EA isn’t a lost password.

They did some dumb shyt where you HAVE to log into an old email to verify your account.

I have that problem when i play any EA game.

It’s dumb AF and it’s all their doing. But i have the same issue if i try to play a physical EA game.

They stupid AF :stopitslime:

That's simply not how it works.
To change "home console" you have to log in, go into the console settings and set the console to your "home console" and when you do that it'll unlink your previous "home console".
I'm really confused as to what scenario you're describing. An SSD is not some key that automatically changes the "home console" settings.

The information that designates your home console as your home console is stored locally on the SSD.

Which is why you can disconnect from the internet and play those games forever.

If you take that SSD out, and put it into another PS5. That PS5 is now the exact same as the one you took it from.

Physical media offers a unique feeling of nostalgia to what digital can offer.
I live in the digital marketing space full time; We were just talking about how there's nothing exactly like the experience of gathering around a physical family album and pointing at the pictures and telling the stories. Sure you can pull up a folder and click around pictures, but there's just a special quality to actually picking up that binder. Same with games, music, art work, etc.

I agree. But i also think the digital world is coming. People will revere digital things just like we do physical things.
And why can't you log into that old email?
Cause it’s closed

I really wish I could show you how what you're saying does not work.
I'm tempted to make a video and show you. You cannot just pull the SSD out of a console and play those games on another console without logging in.
The games on that drive will literally be locked and you'll get a message that tells you to either purchase the game, or to log in to the account that the game was purchased under.
