On KRS One's nose, eating sunflower seeds.
Of that list mine were

1. Rakim
2. Kane
3. LL
4. Slick Rick
5. G Rap
5. Chuck D
7. KRS

On the real I think MC Ricky D is ranked too high. I love Rick but he's not top 10. Honestly I can never settle on a top 10 because it way too many dope rappers n different eras. You do realize that have Rick over KRS....Chuck...and GRap?:ooh:

Is this your fav top 7? Or the top 7 GOAT?

Edit: my bad I see

My fav 10 of all time

1. Kane
2. Kool Moe Dee
3. Ghost Face
4. KRS
5. Kool Keith
6. Rakim
7. Sean Price
8. LL
9. Killa Cam
10. Cube

I was speakin on Ja and Luda not being anywhere near Rakim. Kane was right there with Rakim from 88-90.

Kane got a little more airplay because of I Get The Job Done but that did not elevate him above the popularity stratosphere he was on with Rakim. Kane was not satisfied with that level so he sold out to try to attain that LL level. Rakim stayed true to himself and because of that his legacy is looked at a lot more favorably than Kane's.

im not saying that they werent in the same stratosphere but kane was clearly a bigger name. he wasnt ll cool j, but he was closer to LL than rakim was.

tons of people who never heard of rakim are familiar with big daddy kane.

yall gotta think outside the box.

lol at comparing Ja Rule's and Luda's career to Rakim's, neither one of those dudes are close to being mentioned as all time greats and don't deserve to be mentioned in this thread

secondly Rakim was is still is the bigger star than Kane, I just saw the god perform here in Detroit a few months or so ago and guess who opened up for the god? yep you got it, Kane (Slick Rick opened up for them both though), but still Kane took the stage before the god.

Rakim already merked Jay on a non Rakim type beat on the watcher 2, delivery, flow, lyrics you name Ra' bested Jay and needed only a standard 16 to do it. Hell Nas and Jay have collab'd together on different beats and the same thing happened.

and you definitely need to think outside the box. i never said that luda & jarule are all-time greats.

i can see kane having no problems going on before rakim. whats your point? you can headline without headlining. dmx was the real headliner of the HKL tour without officially headlining. who did everybody leave the building talking about is the better question.

no mentions of chuck d tho?

1. rakim
2. ll cool j
3. kool g. rap
4. krs-one
5. big daddy kane
6. chuck d
7. slick rick

that was my official tissue list for that era.

but since we're listing favorites:
1. ll cool j
2/3. rakim/kool g rap
4. chuck d
5. big daddy kane
6. slick rick
7. krs-one

Rakim vs Kane..

Im sitting here reading all the arguments. I still dont see a valid Ra is better than Kane or vice versa.

Death To Spookism
Let us not devalue these pioneers with reductionism.

KRS One, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, LL Cool J, Slick Rick.

All put out great music that formed the modern Hip Hop landscape, you will never be able to pick one out of them that sits head and shoulders above the rest.

Me I just press play.

The Ghetto of Oz
For me its impossible to qualify that type of statement, shyts just preference, the main dudes from that time, Cool J, G Rap, BDK and Rakim was all complete emcees...

who was best...

too subjective for me....

Peace.

I agree with this 100%

Kane was my personal favorite but I understand why Rakim is rated higher on the popular vote

To me that's like asking who is better

exactly.

big daddy kane was a legit celebrity. to say that rakim had a better career is "inside the box" thinking.

and yea, i like kool g. rap more than both of them in terms of personal favoritism, but i had him tied up with rakim because kool g rap loses points with me for not being a nice person. homeboy runny-ray doesnt condone the pimping and beating of women.

Rakim vs Kane..

Im sitting here reading all the arguments. I still dont see a valid Ra is better than Kane or vice versa.

whats crazy is that these are regular debates between people that are of the era, but somehow rakim just became the undeniable victor over time with newer listeners. its wierd because kane appeals more to younger listeners than rakim.
