Honestly I think the persona Of 2pac and Big was so big and the shyt that happened to both of them damn near wiped out the rappers that came before them unless they were involved with them in some way. It’s funny all interviews with rappers from the 90s are always asked about there relationship with those two.

Many didn't last just because they hated on younger artist and stuck with their original sound that ends up sounding dated.
Or moved onto other ventures because these vulture labels aren't paying or playing fair. As much as I would have loved for Cube, LL and others to stay hungry and make great music, I can't blame them at all for acting instead.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Rappers from the 80's don't get no love out side of NWA maybe.

ATCQ don't get love.. Honestly, with rap music the fanbase has always been fickle. It's all about the newest and latest.

Ironically, it's always been that way. In the late 80's rappers were trying to outshine the rappers before them on some competition shyt.

Pac and Biggie's names still ring out because of their deaths. Outkast has stood the test of time. There are others, but Pusha T was talking about the forefathers which is different. Early 80's shyt

“A lot of our forefathers, the greats, they didn’t stand the test of time,” Push said. “As great as they were, I don’t know how much they are [still] appreciated. [I want] to show that rap doesn’t have to age out. When people look at me, they need to understand that I can do this forever.”
Love Live the Kane came out in '88 and in 1991, nikkas was calling for Kane's head because of Prince of Darkness.

He's not exactly, lyin'.

pretty sure he said this on drink champs and it's true

at the same time it wasn't in their control rap sounds evolved very rapidly in the 80's to know that rakim and Jay-Z the same age is a trip. some of the older rappers got a very small window before rap moved on drastically from their style and sound. whenever something is new it just advances at a rapid pace that's the nature of things. when I started listening to rap i could only go back as far as 88 outside very few rappers. I couldn't really do the shan and the kurtis blows and the melle mel shyt... statrted with the Kane, Ra, Grap, Slick Rick shyt.
