Why do people do it? Its like an taboo discussion to not state the obvious. Kinda like an understood social delusion which is fascinating and interesting.
:manny:I guess if you wanna know, but chances are any answer in this thread will be people speculating on why others do it, rather than why they might do it
themselves. I don't give much thought to this stuff (cause again, none of it really makes sense to me) so I couldn't answer specifically for others. I just think in real-life
situations where folks don't care about racial politics as much, exceptions and exemptions are made so you have more reasons to connect with each other rather than disconnect, and
those who Identify one way or another do so based on their environment and what they feel most connected to. Obviously two different people in the same environment can
come to different conclusions, so its not an easy thing to answer.

I'm sure the people you're talking about are considered white in their homeland/everywhere else and could pass for white in the U.S. if they kept their heritage a secret.

Matter fact hold on don't a lot of Ricans already live like cacs anyway, you're sure they're not considered white, I don't think it's cut-and-dried like that
I looked at the demographics and 80% consider themselves white in Puerto Rico. That maybe a stretch though.

Yeah. There are also more people there who checked Black in the census than people who checked "other" or "two or more races".
