You didn't know about the Joe Smith scandal? That's the source of my hatred for McHale and Taylor@tremonthustler1
I apologize for your lost.
David Stern’s 10 most notorious fines and suspensions
Joe Smith (2000): Just 3 1/2 years removed from being the top overall pick in the draft, Joe Smith shocked the NBA by signing as a free agent with the capped-out Minnesota Timberwolves for just $1.7 million. In the two offseasons following, Smith signed similarly modest deals so as to work with league rules that would allow him a massive contract extension in 2001. Strangely, the Timberwolves actually wrote down Smith’s illegal, wink-wink contract, which was later revealed to the league in an unrelated court dispute. Smith’s contract was voided in late 2000, the Wolves were fined $3.5 million dollars, team general manager Kevin McHale was suspended for a season, and Minnesota lost draft picks in the 2001, 2002 and 2004 drafts, hindering the team during Kevin Garnett’s prime. – Kelly Dwyer

I was a low-key fan of the Wolves, in middle school (no team in New Orleans, yet) and didn't know about this.
I heard of it, of course, I just didn't understand the gravity of it.You didn't know about the Joe Smith scandal? That's the source of my hatred for McHale and Taylor
The thing that's mindblowing about it is this.I heard of it, of course, I just didn't understand the gravity of it.
I remember some sort of salary scandal.
And KG stuck in there...I don't ever hear nuffin' about KG's character...granted him was compensated handsomely. The thing that's mindblowing about it is this.
That was a no-win situation. They got caught, lost picks, money, everything. If they didn't get caught, Joe Smith was gonna get a 7 year $94 mil contract. Honestly, which punishment is worse?
