A lot of it has to do with streaming. There is a strong market that doesn't watch the league through official channels.
I’ll admit to being a guilty party in this cause I can’t remember the last time I truly sat down and watched a nba game on a regular network/nba official stream. Only if the stream is really bad that I would watch tnt/ESPN/NY etc.

NFL streams get illegal views too but I think the demographic is more willing to watch at bars/tv/regular shyt. Like I don’t ever see a “who got that stream for the ravens vs Pats” etc

That is certainly true, but unfortunately streaming doesn’t count towards ratings or advertising dollars which the NBA needs to justify the amount of money they receive from ESPN and TNT. It’s the same thing with regular television as well.

Even still though, the NBA has the issue of people not caring about the regular season. Not even it’s own players and comments from owners like Mark Cuban make the issue even worse. I would have heavily fined him to be honest. It’s one thing to think those thoughts, but it’s another to say it out loud especially since people are already pissed about it beforehand,

NBA's non-cable viewing options are fukking awful compared to other sports.

They gotta get with the times. Quality all over the place and random ass blackouts too

People also might be getting tired of constantly watching the same teams over and over and over. There's a lot of young talent in the league and they do a poor job showcasing that talent.
:manny:

It’s because they market the bigger teams and stars at the expense of everyone else. You have a problem if two weeks into the season, all the focus is on star players and where they will be going after the season is over.

No one will care about your regular season or playoffs for that matter if all the talk about will a star player stay or go? It happens every season at the expense of the league as a whole.

This is what happens when you market individual players and focus on the biggest markets.

People were on here a few weeks ago with the ratings thread trying to defend it. The NBA more than any other sport is star driven and the league as a whole has suffered because of it.

The fans of Milwaukee can’t even enjoy their season because of the looming narrative of whether Giannis will sign the supermax or not. They couldn’t even soak in their run last year before that hit piece came out soon after their loss. The same thing with Davis, Kyrie and KD. When all of the talk about player movement is overshadowing your season, then you got a problem.

Agree. The media coverage of the NBA is trash. All about headlines and gossip. They rarely discuss the actual games. I remember when ESPN would air Coast To Coast and they'd do game look ins and actually break down and analyze games. NBA TV doesn't even do a good job covering their games. They're well behind NFL Network and MLB Network.

They better enjoy the fruits of their labor now while before the next CBA comes around. Load management is running rampant in the NBA, yet they expect to cash in with the sports betting craze.

They are fukking with betting lines and people’s money, so they better remember that when negotiations come around with all of the “rest management.”

more like this is what happens when every team has the same identity

shoot 40 3s a game

what fun is that

I remember when teams used to have their own style. now you got the the timberwolves playing like the magic who play like the suns who play like the kings who play like the raptors :unimpressed:

NBA has piss poor marketing for years now, people (including myself) thought it would get better with talent being dispersed more evenly, but they're still doing a horrible job of marketing anything that isn't easy. Don't think ESPN ever gave Bingram's crazy start half a bar, gave Trae Young a few shoutouts during their highlights portion but that's about it. Raps arent and havent been given enough love, they pretty much only get a bar when they play a big team (like when they whooped Lakers ass)
