Rap is more diverse for sure so I don't agree that it's in a horrible place. There's tons of Rap out there for everyone whether you like boom-bap, a lot of 808's, alternative, experimental, etc.

What I will agree with is his second point. What's a song that people would agree sounds the best this year regardless of subgenres?

He's not wrong. Most people aren't historians nor heads like us to dig. So it appears everybody copying one or two sounds. I havent been excited by the xxl freshman magazine cover in years.

Not to single you out but mainstream hip-hop isn’t in a great place, I’d argue the indie and underground scene is the best it’s been since the Rawkus days.

It’s tough because you have to find so much of the dope music on your own, or know someone to put you on, but I’ve enjoyed more hip-hop projects from 2018 and 2019 than I have since the early 00’s.

Again, most of it isn’t thrown out there to easily find, and there’s a lot of bullshyt to sift through due to technology removing the barrier to entry. But there’s some absolutely incredible hip-hop being made these days.

I'm not anti mainstream, just a lot of these younger acts sound alike. I'm not mad but would love more diversity. I keep up to stay relevant but I enjoy more r&b and soul these days. Who are some good underground acts besides the ones usually championed on here like Griselda and roc Mariano?
