:pachaha: God damn, y'all really hate Drake huh?
I like Drake. NWTS was a solid 3-3.5. He's more of an alternative hip hop artist though. Like Lauryn Hill. Wasted potential if you ask me, he could drop a classic if he'd go for broke with rhyming.

This I can agree with :obama:

Drake's target audience isn't hip-hop purists or fans of 90s bay area hip hop. He trends young and dumb. More than half the people who hear this verse will like it and have no idea where it comes from. So yes, he could fool enough people to make it worthwhile. Throw enough disingenuous praise to 4Tay in interviews and he's off scott free.

Notice how this dude couldn't dispute anything the first post said...

Not when 97% of your fan base believe those are original lyrics. I can see if he borrowed a Jay-Z line or even a Ma$e line but 4-Tay is not known by the masses. Throw that man a shoutout for inspiring the verse. Or write a check.

this.

i hate when i see forgotten and/or lesser known artists get their chit re-done but receive no mention.

if its a line by a commonly known rapper, then cool. but he shouldve found a way to throw rappin 4-tay's name in there somewhere. otherwise, it just comes off as legalized biting.

especially in this case, where he recited like half the song.

1 star thread. If you have never heard Playaz Club then you just started listening to hip hop a couple of years ago and you are probably a cac.

rappin 4-tay was more of a regional/maybe even local guy.

lets reserve the "cac-calling" for when its actually appropriate.

with that said, thats more the reason why rappin 4-tay shouldve been shouted out.

It's a big difference between referencing/recycling/flipping lyrics from popular works that every fan is expected to have heard and lifting entire verses from regional acts.

Seems obvious to me that Drake was trying to give Tay and The Bay props even if he did it the wrong way. I'm gonna wait to pretend to be outraged until after him and 4Tay speak.

On a related note, Drake needs to slow down with being such a fan. He's turning into a cover band. I don't listen to him unless there's some controversy with his music, but every time I turn around he's sucking somebody off: Aaliyah, Juve, Jodeci, Kanye, Jay, TLC, Beyonce, Wutang, Ma$e, the city of Houston. :shaq2: You don't have to be a dikkrider to get Hip Hop love.

Edit: forgot about Tigallo. Phonte can't even get a verse or feature from this clown.

When was the Bay relevant? :bryan: Who is the best artist to come out of the Bay Area in the last 20 years that makes good music and people outside of the Bay area actually care about? :bryan:
Everybody from wale, to drake has been running around with a DISTINCTIVE bay sound. I'm not from there or even familiar with their music like that it's just blatantly obvious

Good point about the movie. It's funny how those connections recede in your memory. I don't even relate the two in my mind anymore.
