Rate This City: Day 55 - Jersey City

I remember going up there on a road trip for my boys child support case back in like 2012. Him, his girl, her daughter, and her brother. We stayed at some spot called Parsippany I wanna say. Real small town it seemed. I think only had like one major road there or at least we stayed on the main strip. That's when I first found out about the no self serve gas stations. The town wasn't that bad for a small town feel. I'm guessing these other cities along the Hudson are just like that.

That part of NJ is real suburban. The entire state is a suburb to be honest minus the small cities that are scattered and the strip of mothers Nj that lies by the Hudson.

my family so hood i thought downtown jc wasnt jc until i was 18 because it looked nice and had white ppl walking freely around.

I can see JC from my window...Ive been in NY 20years and I've never been there.

I had a friend who lived over there though...everything about it is based on the access to Manhattan.

What he hated about it though was the commute...and late nights he had to always leave early because the trains would stop running at certain times

But then you go two blocks past the tunnel exit and make a right, shyt looks ghetto and run down. I don't get it

Jersey city is definitely coming up as a city. But of course that's because of gentrification. In the next few years it's going to one of the go to cities if it wasnt one already.

Damn near my whole family from Jersey City (Dwight Street stand up!) I love that dirty azz city tho!!!

I remember my grandma taking my sis and I to Journal Square as kids. I bought all my DJ Clue? mixtapes down there lol...bought em all back to SC and brag to my friends.


I always thought of that city as a stopover on ya way to NYC

I don't know much about JC but shoutout to Iris Records - one of the best record shops in the tri-state

Someone told me about this spot so I went there to buy one or two albums, ended up chopping it up with the manager for about an hour and they gave me a bag full of records on the love. Good people.

Yeah I don't know how my homegirl picked that hotel or area. Maybe cuz it was cheap. I think we spent one day going down to Philly to visit a former co-worker and another day we went to NYC. Went with her brother one night to visit his boy in the poconos. I remember that night especially cuz we were smoking at his boys crib and I'm over there trying to drive the rental van back to the hotel in one piece afterwards. Wouldn't do that or a trip like that again. All that driving was brutal.

I love going to liberty state park right across the river from manhattan, serene . Nice science museum, Pavonia Newport fit the shopping. Good pizza places. If I want a quick escape and no one to know where I am, I’ll get on the Path, book a hotel in JC and look at the ny skyline - order food. Walk around. Get on a water taxi or ferry , ride around.
