Lyrically, Jay is not seeing shyt like NY State of Mind, One Love, The World is Yours on Illmatic. Just in terms of rhyming, complexity and schemes.
D'evils & Regrets are stronger lyrical displays than that. Jay 1upped him on the lyrics. Nas has him beat on less shallow content. That' doesn't make his wordplay nicer though.
No hate on Nas, but THIS has to be the ONLY place I actually see and hear people give this much love to Nas.

Jay had nicer wordplay that's one of his fortes he's better than Nas at that, and that's just one part of lyricism but straight lyrics using multis and slant rhymes and shyt that goes to Nas. Nas never been a slick wordplay MC he's more in the G Rap lane in terms of style. Illmatic is more intricate, more lyrically complex. Can't say Regrets is better lyrically than One Love just going over the bars real quick.
