Because maybe that song was recorded before RD came outif Reasoanble doubt was so dope, why on the intro of Makaveli, the news reporter called Jay Z "dude from Hawaiin Sophie Fame" , not "dude from Reasonable Doubt"![]()

theres only 2 years...most stuff that came out in 1996 or later will have aged better than anything that came out in 94 or earlier. It Was Written aged better as well.
Illmatic was deemed a classic when it came out. Reasonable Doubt became a classic after Jay-z sold 5 million off Hard Knock Life 1. Don't compare, if jay ain't become big time nigs would still view Reasonable Doubt how they viewed it when it dropped just, a solid debut album.
and on top of that they were so many albums that were better musically and lyrically technically speaking imo
this...especially the comment on the year RD came out...thats its curse..if it came out in 97 it prolly would have made more of an impact but 96 was just a ridiculous year
RD sounds just as dated production wise or at least 96 wise.
At least illmatic has the superior lyrics.
In no way does Illmatic have superior lyrics. It is a slightly better overall project though.
Lyrically, Jay is not seeing shyt like NY State of Mind, One Love, The World is Yours on Illmatic. Just in terms of rhyming, complexity and schemes.Lyrically, Jay is not seeing shyt like NY State of Mind, One Love, The World is Yours on Illmatic. Just in terms of rhyming, complexity and schemes.

Jay had nicer wordplay that's one of his fortes he's better than Nas at that, and that's just one part of lyricism but straight lyrics using multis and slant rhymes and shyt that goes to Nas. Nas never been a slick wordplay MC he's more in the G Rap lane in terms of style. Illmatic is more intricate, more lyrically complex. Can't say Regrets is better lyrically than One Love just going over the bars real quick.D'evils & Regrets are stronger lyrical displays than that. Jay 1upped him on the lyrics. Nas has him beat on less shallow content. That' doesn't make his wordplay nicer though.
It goes both ways fam, Nas has plenty of hardcore haters on here.No hate on Nas, but THIS has to be the ONLY place I actually see and hear people give this much love to Nas.
nikkas on here be falling over themselves to praise Nas. In my everyday life, we debate music and Nas definitely gets love but damn, on here he could get free blowjobs for the rest of his natural life...
I like Reasonable Doubt better than Illmatic, but I like both of them and I like both artists. Never have I seen people debate every minute detail of an album(s) like yall nikkas do Nas/Jay. Everyday, there's a big Nas up, put Jay down thread. But do yall, just know this ish getting real played...![]()
theres only 2 years...
You can even say this with Pac.The style/tone/beats changed after 1996.
if Reasoanble doubt was so dope, why on the intro of Makaveli, the news reporter called Jay Z "dude from Hawaiin Sophie Fame" , not "dude from Reasonable Doubt"![]()
