In regards to which sounds more modern yes I think RD. But not sure the significance of that.

Illmatic by design had an old school feel even for 1994 and by nature is popular by the lyricst and beatmakers even now, whereas the themes of RD had a hustler feel for the time which was popular amongst rappers even today. So I can see why one feels more well aged even if the other is more iconic

Reasonable Doubt sounds fresher (shyt like Politics As Usual sounds like it could have came out today), it's two different eras and two different vibes. For all it's worth Illmatic is still better produced, and is superior lyrically.

Ain't No Nikka is worse than anything on Illmatic by far and it sounds like complete shyt today, it reeks of shiny suit and is ridiculously dated. Brooklyn's Finest is also dated. :manny:

Both are great albums both are in my top 10, both are timeless Illmatic to me will always be number one. I had Reasonable Doubt in the back end of my top 10 probably behind Me Against The World.
