:francis: Doesn't mean much tbh. Thats an attempt that will hopefully bring popularity and an expanded demographic to boxing but that doesn't mean it's already achevived that goal. Let's be reality, the most famous active boxer in that commercial was Broner:mjlol:. I'm sorry but I just don't see him ever drawing the same time of attention as a Mayweather :yeshrug:. And when I say dying, I don't actually mean disappear, I just mean popularity when it comes to the casual fan. Boxing Stans will swear boxing isn't dying but that's just because they follow it and are highly invested in it. But when it comes to the casual fan, there's no denying that boxing is gonna fall on some tougher times after Mayweather retires:yeshrug:

To YOU Broner is the most known but im sure more people will be there to see Robert.

Floyd already retired once and it was fine... the same people that tune in to watch floyd lose or some that watch him to win will continue to pay and watch.

I love boxing and mma. I don't even like comparing the two because they are different sports. But you can't go around saying things like "boxing is dead" or "mma is taking over" when those guys are being paid peanuts and boxers salaries are rising. Didn't cotto just sign a 50 million dollar deal for 3 fights? You can add up the last 20 ufc cards and i doubt their fighters made that much combined. It's a fact these guys are being paid 90k to headline ppvs while boxers you've never heard of get double in non ppv fights.
People who say boxing is dead or dying are just as ignorant as people who say the same about MLB. Just because you don't like it or aren't interested anymore doesn't mean it's dying.

Those people would prefer if boxing died so they dont have to watch well trained and conditioned black men make millions of dollars making while they can only get mad about it...UFC offers a frugal option for the average jealous working man who can see C level fighters have a crack at improving there lives by kicking someone if they cannot punch,it gives them sumn to hope for....Although i bet the rise of Jon Jones has probably hurt that somewhat...

Eh?

MMA has been on a relatively steady increase in popularity for decades now. shyt, Rousey was a bigger draw than Broner and she fights cans for a living.
Mma's popularity hasn't increased in recent years. I know their ppv buys have been declining for some time and most of their events on fox flopped.

Boxing will indeed NEVER DIE!!!

But it will become like SOCCER!!!

Existing but no one really cares about it but once every 4 years or so:sas2:

Americans dont care about Soccer but to say NOBODY cares about it is stupid...The 2 top leagues are the most watched and highest grossing sports leagues on the planet...

Why are you acting like Boxing is some fledgling sport that is just getting off it's feet and Mayweather is it's first and only star :wtf:

There were megastars before Mayweather, and there will be some after him as well.
Right now Floyd is all they got:yeshrug:. Hopefully there is a megastar waiting in the wings but until they break thru it is what it it:francis:. Hell even with Floyd boxing has been on notice.

I think people are mixing up UFC with MMA

The UFC is gonna die in the next 10 years most likely. They've done a hell of a job pioneering and taking root though.

No sport will ever out right die because every sport has its diehard stans, but to act as if layman watch boxing like megastans is unrealistic. Boxings biggest mistake was moving everything to PPV. Less access to the masses has led to less popularity when it comes to the common fan. Only nikkas paying for PPV bouts that are not Mayweather-pac related are super boxing stans

Mma in the US is basically the ufc to 99% of people. People better hope the ufc doesn't die because mma in this country could go with it, just like pride and japan.

UFC has already laid a crazy foundation though. MMA gyms have popped up up at ridiculous rates all across the country. When (yes, when) the UFC folds because it doesn't take care of its fighters the next organizer is gonna be in the best position to corner a sport and market that the world has ever seen.

Boxing is struggling to get two recognizable faces on TV at the same time these days. The kinda put themselves in a corner in more ways than one over the past 15 years.
