Of course there is a double standard.Why do people constantly feel the need to compare posters on a messageboard to paid professionals with degrees in journalism and bully pulpits. This is not the first time (and probably not the last) that someone has tried to make this leap.
In addition to being and eduated professionals there are certian ethics that a journalist is expected to adhere to. So yes the standards for a journalist in terms of accuracy and not allowing personal feelings to overwhelm them are higher than the standards for the lay person in that regard.
