Retail, been there for almost 2 years. The women are fukking c*nts and give no fukks about you. They will leave the dressing room looking like shyt because they don't have to clean it up. They will try to use expired coupons on you and try to make you do things thats against store policy and get mad when you tell them you can't do that because of that reason. As of thanksgiving, you have no life outside of that store. You will hate everything about retail.

The only perk is mentally shopping as you work, so when you're ready to shop you know know exactly where to go and what to grab.

Bottom line: retail is demonic.

Try a temp agency.

:leostare:Do you work at Kohls brehette?

I've only worked retail and that was in my teens and early twenties. It wasnt that bad. The pay sucked though and I had to work on the weekend and Christmas eve.

Have worked in retail for the better part of ten years (with the exeption of joining the Army for 3 years)

Retail Electronics (Best Buy) specifically

If you are looking to make it a career be prepared to WORK your ass off and sacrifice holidays. I haven't had a true holiday off besides Christmas Day since 2004.

Be prepared to work long hours (9-15 hour shifts) weekly

I wouldn't recommend it unless you absolutely LOVE it. More than the pay (which in my situation is VERY good) I really have a true passion for my job, it's what gets me through all the long hours.

I'm Specialty Sales Manager.

I went from Part Time to Manager within 6 months, but my situation was pretty fast tracked from A). Having worked with the company before joining the Army and knowing everything I'd need to do get back to the top and B). Working my ass off. And when I say working my ass off I MEAN it. 57-65 hour weeks for the first 3 months. Almost no days off. 12 hour shifts. I went absolutely ham because I knew it's what I wanted to do. My goal is to make Assistant Store Manager this year and make General Manager within the next two years, which would make me the youngest General Manager of a Best Buy in the state (GA)

That's kinda what I want to do. I've been working retail since I was 16. I moved and worked at a skating rink for some extra cash and got promoted with the quickness. I have a great work ethic so every job I get, I get a promotion. Only reason I'm not further along is because I move too damn much.

I'd like to become a manager, learn the trade then start my own business.

:leon:Well done breh. So you hired as a full time employee? Not understanding how you are getting 57 plus hours per week.

Both times I was hired as part time/seasonal.

First time was in 2005 I was 19 years old. Best Buy was my first job and I loved it. Loved electronics and working with people and matching them with solutions that fit their needs. There is no greater reward than people actually THANKING you for helping them spend money. I take it as a symbol of pride when customers only want to deal with me or someone from my team because they have absolute trust that their money will spent on something that will enrich their everyday lives.

So I started seasonal in Digital Cameras, from there was promoted to permanent part time in Wireless (cell phones, iPods, etc.) and then I became the "Wireless/DI Expert" which was a position that meant I was an expert of both departments, which was my full time promotion. From their I switched stores to do what's called Best Buy For Business

Me in 2005

Me in 2007 Best Buy For Business

I did that until I left the company in 2009 to join Sony as a floor manager in their newly launched Sony Style retail stores.

From there I Joined the Army for three years. But my goal was always to eventually come back to Best Buy and finish what I'd started. However. When I left the army in late 2013 all of my old contacts had either moved on or left the company so I had nobody to vouch for me. My only choice what's to start right back at the bottom as a part time employee, so I accepted a position with my old store.

Within a month I had the highest IST (Individual Sales Tracker) of any employee. From there I was promoted to Team Lead and two months later I was promoted to Geek Squad Manager. After 6 months I was promoted to Specialty Sales Manager, which means I am in charge of 40% of the stores revenue ( Phones,Tablets, Portable Audio, and Health & Fitness)

Me as Geek Squad Manager giving an award to an employee
