Well well well whaddaya know

This just came out like an hour ago

This is exactly what I'm talking about... analytics geeks looking at each component of basketball in a different room instead of putting it all together in a bigger picture

You know.... the way people who know and play basketball do. Analytics have to work in a broad context..... not data points isolated to the level of meaninglessness

Basically what I’ve been trying to say this entire thread.

With nearly 1,200 games in the NBA, he is notable for having scored the second-most career points of a player to never play in an NBA All-Star Game, behind Jamal Crawford. As of the 2018–19 season, he is ranked 52nd in all-time points scored, along with being the fifth in most points scored by an eligible player not currently in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

...not to mention this is for a player who

(1) spent most of his career as a reserve
(2) was the same style of shooter who gets praised now

he knows what he's talking about.

This.

And "analytics" being the boogie man has been overblown by those scared of math.

Cats need to understand that the word also encompasses simple shyt like

Free throw %
Player A shooting this % driving to the right vs left
Etc

shyt like that is also "analytics"

He's right in the sense that everyone trying to do the same shyt without having the right personnel is stupid. Cats bring up the Warriors but they made the most midrange shots in NBA history over the previous 5 years. It's moreso everyone trying to be the Rockets

It's not analytics. It's common sense. If I know a player can't dribble with his left hand or lay it up with the left, as a defender I'm going to do everything in my power to force him to that position on the court where he's most uncomfortable. Nerds are trying to make everything into an equation when the game is truly as simple as 1+1=2. It's not a hard game to follow if you are watching what's going on and not looking for crossovers and dunks.

Analytics exist that tell you how a player performs when he dribbles with his left hand.

Analytics nerds said Melo was washed and couldn’t play in the modern nba :snoop:

He been killing in the mid post and still scoring off mid range :banderas:

Really?

I thought because he was half-assing his conditioning, played mediocre help defense and was too selfish to play a secondary role....

Glad he's bouncing back tho.

I like this video, but it's weirdly titled. All of the numbers he uses to justify posting up are analytics too lol.

If you listen to NBA radio Eddie been saying this shyt for yeeeeears.

And what he said is true. Its not just a nerds agenda....its been a league wide agenda since the late 2000s to now 2010s (before today). First it was calling cheap offensive fouls on big guys in the paint during switches where little men were guarding them (we saw this a bunch of times with duncan, shaq, hell we say this years later in the 2011 finals with barea and lebron) then it became not giving big man post options under the paint. Then it went to not giving big men fouls while posting up and only when they faced their opponent in the triple threat. Next it became only giving small players who drove to the hoop fouls and finally it has morphed to giving jump shooters fouls while not giving those same fouls to drivers.

It has been a concerted effort by the league to speed up the play and showcase small players shooting 3s and or driving. Which also makes it harder to keep leads and ensures teams are always in a game.

If you think I am crazy watch a game and see how many times teams even throw the ball down low to a big man with a small defender switched on them. Hell check to see if a big man is ever given a foul as they are posting up with the ball.

For reference the bull shyt NFL has gone to the same thing to encourage passing. When the last time you seen offensive holding on a passing play? But how many times do you see offensive holding on a running play? This is a perfect example how the league has encouraged passing.

I love Eddie Johnson. Justin Termine can hold my nuts though :pacspit:

Eddie is on point
They're actually a good team and very entertaining to listen to. It would be a good look for NBA TV if they would simulcast their daily radio show from Sirus XM NBA.
