it's not merely tied to religion, it is also tied to issues of keeping women faithful, providing social rights of passage, and a whole host of other reasons since there is no universal way to perform female circumcision. it also predates islam by a couple thousand years

so back on topic, maher's use of this to criticize islam is sloppy, and you have not adequately argued otherwise, breh.
