Rihanna Debuts At No. 27, Despite RIAA Platinum Status

It appears the RIAA and folks at Billboard don’t agree on how to measure Rihanna’s sales.

The singer will debut in the No. 27 slot on the Billboard 200 chart even though the RIAA has already certified ANTI platinum.

Billboard magazine has reported that ANTI moved 15,896 album equivalent units, including four million streams.

Reports say Samsung paid for the platinum-plus copies of the album as a download code made free to Tidal consumers.

ANTI is presently only available on Tidal and iTunes. Physical copies hit retail on Feb. 5.
:wtf:So she flopped AND went platinum.
:mjcry:bae caught that brick

nikka you think anybody is walking around with an article for every single certified in the past 30 years? You might as well ask me if I got the nude photos Marilyn Monroe used to send JFK. :dame:.

Side note: I forgot this part of the article which explains streams-->

After a comprehensive analysis of a variety of factors – including streaming and download consumption patterns and historical impact on the program – and also consultation with a myriad of industry colleagues, the RIAA set the new Album Award formula of 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video song streams = 10 track sales = 1 album sale. Also effective today, RIAA’s Digital Single Award ratio will be updated from 100 on-demand streams = 1 download to 150 on-demand streams = 1 download to reflect streaming’s enormous growth in the two plus years since that ratio was set.

The problem is that 1 hot/trendy song being streamed 1 million times will count as albums sold. That makes absolutely no sense, anyway you look at it. Also, it doesn't explain if it counts as both a single and album, which I'm assuming it does.

Now, while this is retarded, I think that most of us will agree that the industry had no choice but to modify to account for technology. However, changing the value and formula for what counts is what leaves us dumbfounded.

Keep it old school rules 500K = Gold, 1M = Plat. Then from there legitimate paying sites only (which can still be manipulated), 10 tracks over 3mins or 30mins from album streamed equals 1 album sold - per account...or 1/2 of an album or 3/4 album. Something like that. For tracks, it has to be an official single. They never counted for street singles so nothing else should count.
