With his numbers a ring and a probable MVP this season that will be enough for him to get in at that point. Eli doesn't have an MVP. Matt Ryan doesn't have a ring. Rivers has neither. Ben has rings but no MVP like Eli. Stafford with both and a chance at another ring this year got them all beat and his numbers are or will be better then them all too.
Wait. So Rivers and Ryan will get in?
:dahell:
Eli barely has a case but CACs love the Mannings.
:manny:
I think they will make Eli wait a few years. Rivers idk. It sucks for all those QBs during the Brady/Manning/Brees/Ben years. They were never top three QBs. Eli was never a top five QB but has two rings.
:yeshrug:
I feel bad for this era as well. Mahomes/Jackson/Allen/Burrow are all gate keepers.

SMF and LAX to VA and NC
once you get to that 15 plus years area.. mostly its all just padded stats.

you cant let every 15 year plus qb in the HOF. Phillip Rivers is the poster boy
THANK YOU!

The career matters. What people are doing with Stafford is basically forgiving 12 years of performance because "well, he played for the Lions".

The accumulated stats don't matter to me. Tell me what a guy was at his best.

To his credit, Stafford is playing the best football of his career at the end of his career. How this measures up to the first 12 years is where the debate is, but the first 12 years did happen and does matter as much as this LA run does as well.
Stafford probably going to be 1st Team All-Pro and MVP this year. That changes the conversation. And if he wins another chip it's even more clear he gets in.
I will concede that I didn't foresee him having the season he's having, and if he gets accomplishments he's never had (All-Pro, MVP), and wins a second title, yes, that changes the conversation.

I've been on the "no, not a Canton guy" belief, and he runs this season off, now its a debatable conversation. Still doesn't lock him in to me----->just as a reminder, Eli has 2 and I very much don't think he deserves to be in Canton.

So this year doesn't lock Stafford in for me....but it does alter his candidacy in a positive sense.

I don't think he needs to win another one. He just needs to get there. With his stats and 1 superbowl win he's definitely already getting in. Another appearance puts him in the no doubt zone.

I also think Stafford with 1 SB, 1 MVP and a 1st Team All Pro shyts on Eli Manning's resume. Eli will get in due to the politics, family name etc. Winning two Super Bowls certainly matters but would we be having this convo if Joe Flacco had two chips? No.

Eli beat Brady/Belichick 2x, when they were at their peak. That's going to count for more since he's a Manning too.

If the Rams win the SB one more time with Stafford and he adds MVP/1st-Team All Pro? He's a first or second ballot guy. It's weird because he will have a great career on paper but never seemed like a guy where you say "the story of the NFL cannot be told without him."

Flacco would be an interesting case if he had another ring. Russ would be in with another ring.

Mahomes is already in, first ballot.

Allen will get in based on current trajectory but how long he waits will depend on the hardware he collects. Lamar Jackson is in the same boat.

Burrow needs to avoid injury and stack some seasons. He has HOF talent but is nowhere close as of today.

After that, you got the Hurts/Goff/Purdy/Dak etc., guys who need multiple rings. Hurts has one, but likely needs at least one more and about 8+ more years of good to great production. Goff and Dak are getting close on the stats side but need hardware to actually make a case.
