This just seems weird, soundcloud was the spot for mixtapes, and up and comers/independents. No one wanted it to be legit streaming, no one wanted access to retail releases from artists on the big three, we wanted exclusives, throwaways, mixtapes, b-sides, podcasts, dj mixes, etc. Most people used souncloud to compliment shyt like spotify, apple music, etc. I don't see a bunch of people paying for this.

That's fine, but soundcloud wasn't being used in the same way traditional streaming services are, so thinking using the same model will yield the same result is stupid.

I have hundreds of beats on soundcloud that I didn't save anywhere else, does this mean they're going to be deleted?
Was that Soundcloud's long term plan? Have everyone upload music there, and then make them pay to get their own shyt back?

That I can agree with. They asked for donations. If I was a streaming company, that's a component I'd add to my service and increase my user base and slip ads in between joints. Indie artists signing to my service will concede any rights to revenue from the advertisement. However, I'm black with a tiny brain so I don't get to present that transformative idea. Some cac will steal the idea and get a raise and promotion. Sigh
The past two years ive just made a concentrated effort to avoid posting music on soundcloud. Ive been using it since 2008. The writing is on the wall...the site was losing money by the millions even as its userbase increased. They had to find a way to realistically monetize that but at this point it might be too little too late.
I have some unreleased material from acciunts that got supended due to going over my limit from all the way back in 2009. Lol.
